Ido'nt know about unwanted genetics but this is a good suggestion to control drone numbers, use only top bars at numbers one and ten frames.
Welcome Kavius, this is the PLACE to BE if ur into BEE.
Great job and a new colony for your effots, all this best with its production.
Beautiful pic Tomas in my neck of the woods it is also called "fever grass" because of the therapeutic effect it has on a fever. This just a wonderful plant.
Well i really think the bees take up the mixture much more quickly.
Hi Rex the swarms will not be drawn to the plant because the scent is not as prominent if the plants leaves are not been disturbed, as to its use as a smoker fuel, i tried it once while doing hive...
bigbear i concur, in my neck of the woods foundation-less frame usage is quite widespread,my technique is to place such frames in the numbers three and seven position in the brood box,the two frame...

Hi EastSideBuzz in my experience with these "Big Red Ants" the bee normally just leave the hive. Some might have been eaten but these ants loves the pupa.
yamahawg welcome, you seem to be on top of things, good going.
Hi Lionel welcome, i look forward to your benifit from your experiences please don't hesitate to post in the relivant threads your take on the various topics under discussion.
i wish you all the best you have ventured into a most fulfilling endeavor. Treat your bees as you would do yourself.
i must say the welcome is much more than i expected, i feel so at home on this web site,THANKS AGAIN GUYS. I'll surly join the chat in the Hive soon.
when i combine hives like you did i just spray both colonies with a diluted mixture of sugar and water and apply in a mist, a clean spray can normally does the trick.
i concur.
i sometimes find that using water (sprayed in the form of a mist) to retrieve a sworm is far superior to the use of a smoker.
i use a combination of both my bees does the first clean then i go in after with hot water and soap.
these outside genes can be a good thing in that these drones would have acclimatised themselves to your local that is if the queen is not already from local stock.
Thanks guys for the welcome, tim i intend to achieve this by going the ranks of the self employed and involving the my young children + i know you guys will motivate and encourage me to achieve this.
If the treatment of AFB does not result in the erradication of the desease then why bother.I am of the opinion that once detected the colony including the hive should be burnt. Maintaining strong...
