    I'm in central FL and the SHB are terrible this year. I havn't seen this kind of damage in years. They are taken hives I normally would consider safe. We split heavy this year and we've lost hives...

    I'd always heard that 8 to 1 story myself . What got me doubting it was watching a 4 to 5lb swarm draw out a deep super of frames. Figured someone had got thier math off just a touch.

    wax building !!

    Be careful with the wild pork, new diease has killed a few hog hunters(or maybe its an old one coming back). Check with the locals before going out.

    I've been useing this method for years with no problem. I get the lumber 1" thick and 8" wide, and 1"X 12". Some pieces shrink more then others. depending on weather it takes 3 to 4 months to dry....

    In the 60's and 70's anyone could keep bees....stupid or not. It was a different time for beekeepers. We use to routinely make 2 frame splits and walk away, come back in three weeks and pick up hives...
