  1. Re: People actually make a living with honey production??

Ok, who is selling wholesale honey at 2.75 per pound?????? Or shall I ask who is buying for that?? I am not sure it is fair to stretch the numbers. 100 plus average?? Not likely. 2.75 no way. How...
  2. Re: People actually make a living with honey production??

Are you sitting your woodenware in termite mounds????? A honey super should last darn near forever. Keep them inside when not on the bees and keep out the wax moths and I can't see why they wouldn't...

    Re: Winter hives in Texas

Wtf!! Wow, jasmine kills the baby bees. When it blooms if you have good bees that can go forage (it blooms rather early) the bottoms often will be covered with dead baby bees. Every year is different...

Re: Labor Cost Overwintering Bees In California?

Hey, I wonder which hive flies sooner on a cool February morning, a 8 frame single or an 8 frame double?? Oh wait, no one cares about that.

Re: Labor Cost Overwintering Bees In California?

We run all singles. I get paid for a six frame average. And am allowed a 4 frame minimum. Most are pushing 8 frames. Singles make sense for me. No easier inspection than tipping up a single!!

    Re: minimizing robbing

Mann lake sells the pallet tarps for six or four way honey pallets. Stops robbing, dust and rain! I guess you could take the lids off of the neighbors hives first to get your bees robbing there...

I talked to the guys at Paramount about a month ago after hearing some crazy rumors, and the guy in charge of buying told me that they hadn't bought any bees this year. None since they originally...

    Re: Black bees

Just old bees that have robbed on barrels. The other bees seem to groom all the fuzz of of them. See it all the time since we barrel feed.

    Re: Heat exchanger temp setting

How hot does your honey come out of your respective hot rooms? That is most likely the difference. Oh, a 120 for 2 heat exchanges and separators and a 120 for 1 heat exchange and separator. Half the...

Re: summer mite populations and crashes

One could use formic acid pads with supers on. It will be too hot no doubt, but I would rather kill a few queens than a whole bee outfit.
