I understand the cone method, but I do have a question. For the hive that you put there for them to go into. I have one hive that is very weak due to a old queen that I want to replace, but thats...
Matt, no, I am not a member, but I have heard of the organization. I am just now really getting the ADC work off the ground. I have been fur trapping and a little ADC work for several years now.

I was a volunteer firefighter in dickenson County VA before I moved back home. Now I am just waiting on the Pack test, then I will be working as a VDOF Wildland firefighter
I do animal damage control work on the side, and skunks are a real money maker.
Use a cage trap, baited with eggs. Raw is fine. Marshmellows work also. Set the trap in the area the skunks are...
Why off topic, but have you looked into the use of intestanal (sp) parisites for the treatment of MS? The studys I read showed total remition (sp) of symptoms.

Is the hive queenrite? I had one last year that got VERY nasty. They had swarmed, and didnt produce a queen. When I checked them, they had about 10 cells of caped brood, and that was it. I...
I am in Radford VA, and I run one deep and one shallow. Works well for me. I had swarms in may, but nothing after about june 1. I didnt mind the swarms, and one of the hives that swarmed has...
Being one trained and certified in the use of EIDs (Electronic imobilization devices), I can say that the bee sting is nothing compaired to the effect of Stun gun, belt, or the like. I would not...

I like the hivetop feeders. Now, I cant keep my bees where I live, so the fact that the ones I made will hold about 3 gallons of syrup is a good thing. Also, the fact that robbing is almost nil...
On this one http://www2.gsu.edu/~biojdsx/solmltr.htm whats the point of the water in the pan? Is it just to help remove the wax when it cools?
Im thinking of building something like that, but...

On the hive top feeders, don't use the inter cover. It will let bees in to the syrup.
I have went to useing a migritory type cover so I don't have to worry with the inter cover.

Honey isn't an issue with this hive. I have 6 other hives out at a farm for that. Im debateing on wether or not to even put a hive here. We have a neibour here that likes to watch our yard with...
I am wanting to put a small hive at the house to polinate the garden. The problem is that I live in an urban area now, with strange neibours (sp). I was thinking of finding a hollow log, and...
Its on the KY border, near Jenkins.
My thought is to take the box with the rest of the bees in it out there, and scoop up the stragulars, and place them with thte others. They SHOULD stay.

Suit up, with gloves, and GENTLY scoop up handfulls a bees with your hands and place them in the box. I had to do that with my first swarm this year. They clusered on the side of a tree. Took a...
Drifter,
You got a job on your hands there. Sounds like a mess.
As far as the drone brood, mine are laying alot of drone brood, but seems like they always do that this time of year anyway. ...
Is there anyway you can use the chat using Pirch? or MIRC? If so, whats the server info?

Im sure Drifter and Cotton can vouch for this. A coon will move the board to get to the hive. It would not suprise me if one would take the lid off, and pull out the frames one by one. I have...
Here in Clintwood, VA (near the KY line), Sourwood has been blooming for about a week or a little longer. Looks like the Sumac is just starting to bloom here.
