Ultra breeze looks good but if all fails a tyvek suit works great too :-)
I dunno about blueskys bee suits but I like the jacket/veil I got from Dadant for around $55...
I did around 15 cutouts last summer and it worked perfect.
I just got some off Amazon 4oz. For like $8 & shipping
I'm using it for bait hives..
If your looking to use lemongrass oil as a feeding stimulant and worry about if its safe just use...
Well their shipping may be in line with the others but its still rather expensive.
and I have shipped boxes larger then what I have recieved for half the price.
But like I said earlier... I like...
I personally wouldnt raise queens or split hives after july...
but... Thats just me... I imagin you can so you have some on hand if needed.
just so the splits have enough time to build up for...
I like Brushy mtn for the most part but shipping is rediculous and their website screws up alot mis quoting shipping costs.
Then takes them a few days to let you know you can pay more or cancel.....
I personally would skip the foundation .. Glue popsicle sticks in the top to give the bees a guide. Brush on melted bees wax and go foundationless..
Yep.. Nucs would be better for small scale breeders...
I agree with Ray...
Break them down to 1 deep.
Find the queen and get rid of her..
Then give them a frame of eggs once a week until you see queen cells.
Feed them and given the resources they...
I use these 2... and both are free.
Hive Tracks
And here is a Mobile App for an Android Phone.
Beehive Manager
Feed them and give them a frame of eggs (no bees) from your stronger hive. Once a week for 3_4 weeks...
Giving them the resources they need to correct the problem has always worked for me.
I agree with jadell...
Sounds like your girls been raiding a humming bird feeder.
I split my strongest hives each spring in april.. Then about a week before the spring flow starts I make them queenless and re_combine the 2.
Usually around May 1st.
Ill have 2 deep brood chambers...
I dunno about the suits on ebay but I use the $49 jacket and veil from Dadant.
i also keep a tyvek suit on hand and extra veil which works great too..
So... Any tips or things you have learned in the past couple years that you can share to help out the new beeks?
Nice :)
Our flow in md started a couple weeks ago..
I'm not sure what their working but my neighbors scale hive gained 41lbs. in 5 days...
and my hives are filling up fast...
Get your self a cheap $10 baby pool from walmart.
Put it out next to your hives.
Fill it half way.
put a cinder block in the middle then wet it and put some lemon grass oil or honey b healthy...
Hey Mark,
You have done an incredible job with hive tracks!!! I just wanted to say thank you!!!
I have a couple ideas which are probably not new but id love to see.
1. a mobile app that...
Yep that's how I do it :)
if there is no good drawn comb on the frame take it all right down to the comb guide and let them start from scratch.
Yep I would definitly be requeening...
If you can, add a frame of eggs once a week for about 3 weeks.
Or look into ordering new queens.
Yeah I run all foundationless hives too.. tear down any bur comb you find.
If you just installed the nucs you should be feeding them which will help them build comb faster.
I wouldnt worry about...
Yea you should call your supplier and have them give you a new queen...
Small bees aren't bad... I would say thats their normal size...
They may be on nautral or small cell comb which is good...
how does the brood pattern look in the troubled nuc?
