Thanks, broodhead. I kind of miss the spring adventure,
my trailers have weeds engulfing them.
Yes, it rough, we got spoiled by that premium varietal.
Looks like the state might have to take...
  3. Is there any less citrus chemical spraying (greening) in North Florida vs. South Fl?

Had two great years in Vero area, and then two bad years in Vero.
Mostly dead hives, hardly any honey, because of spraying.
I know I'm not the only one, lots have given up, on citrus.
    But a...

    Re: Raccoons vs. Bees

Don't leave any honey or comb out.
Once they develop a taste for it, they will be lifting lids, no joke, they are strong and intelligent.
They have a sweet tooth, people use coke for trapping.

  7. Re: Greenbeehive.com anyone buy from them in past.

I bought from greenbeehives, many time before. They have been very fair, even with a mixed up order, delivery is not super fast about 2 weeks.
Overall, very pleased. I think they use plasticell...
  8. hundreds of bees trapped, in rear car lenses, installed a screen

2007 bmw, rear lenses have vents for heat, so when I hauled a couple hives, or moved supers,

    Re: Comb Too Old?

I have same issue, lower broodcombs are empty and abandoned, and a otherwise strong hive moves up with brood, and honey.
My area has more pesticides and they stop using them, or.....?
  10. retail price suggestions for a medium frame of honey, wood frame and all

I've seen about $20 to $35 retail price, set by market owner.
I also give them a heavy gauge clear bag I got from uline, about 10x 30, so the buyer can transport home....

Re: DIY Crush and Strain equipment

I've shown this before, but one frame and one quart extraction rig, for plastic foundation, I made, not rocket science.
Helps with varietal separation, frame by frame.

  12. Re: I scrape and reuse the wood frames - I must be introducing some "toxic" elements?

    Thanks Michael,
You are a great resource here, use concise outline format, and really take the time to inform us green horns.
  13. Re: I scrape and reuse the wood frames - I must be introducing some "toxic" elements?

yes, but OK to reuse wood?
  14. Re: I scrape and reuse the wood frames - I must be introducing some "toxic" elements?

varroa, light insecticide buildup, nosemia, or other non desirables.
  15. I scrape and reuse the wood frames - I must be introducing some "toxic" elements?

I snap out the old plastic brood foundation and put new plastic in, but can't help but think,
I am inoculation some nasty chemical, or biological elements, besides the obvious like foulbrood,
    when...

Re: Too many hives at 1 place?

    no one has a monopoly,
I have the same situation here.
yield is way down, only the super strong colonies produce a surplus.
  21. aggressive racoon, or fox?, climbs 12 feet, flips heavy lids, eats comb, trap set

Fish cat food, is the bait. That high up, I could probably poison with rat pellets, but will try "humane" way first.
