Cool hive.
Actually the bees cool the hive by evaporating water. Circulating too much 120º air through the hive is a problem. The same problem might arise with the thin walls of the barrel (is it...

Hinged bottom sounds like a good idea.
Just as bad as the winter cold is the summers' heat. The wax gets soft with too much ventilation in the summer and, without frames and wired foundation, it...
Do you plan to have a bottom board under the screen? You do know the screen is not necessary and often a problem. I know some people feel more at peace to have them in place but make sure you have a...
Condensation on the side walls is not as bad as condensation above the cluster but it can be a sign of poor ventilation. The glass gets cold fast and will gather condensation. Can you insulate it?...
Thank you Barry for the email. I have emailed BSA and offered my mentoring support.
If you just want to use them for transport, medium frames will fit in a deep nuc. The bees will not mind the extra space under the medium frames but if you leave them for longer than a couple of days...
Monsanto & Co. got us where they wanted, didn't they? Now they are too big to fail. And the farmer, symbol of resilience, self-sufficiency and independence, has no alternative seed stock. That alone...
Don't worry too much about the screened bottom. They are overrated. None of my hives have it and I never had a ventilation problem. There have been reports here of excessive bearding and broken combs...
Nice hive! That's a really big entrance though, robbing might be an issue. :)
The cedar, even eastern white, will rot, by some accounts, at the rate of 1" every 100 years. What's your...
Welcome to the forum Aram,
Now, where did I hear that name before?
As mentioned before there are vertical walled top bar hives, they are referred to as Tanzanian Top Bar Hives (TTBH.)...
"... every time I make a delivery of honey in which the invoice is $600.00 or more..."
If the invoice is for the honey you sell there shouldn't be any 1099 involved. As waynesgarden said: honey is...
"So, what you are saying is, that every time I make a delivery of honey in which the invoice is $600.00 or more, I have to issue a 1099 to the store that I am selling to?"
No! They have to issue you...
Yes you do have to give them directions. It's called a ladder. A 2" strip of wax foundation in the center of the frame, connecting the top bar to the bottom bar of the frame. The bees will climb this...
Ash trees. I don't know if bees have any use for it but ash wood will give you both a bow and arrows (I believe your area is bowhunting only.) Honey-glazed venison, anyone? :)
Not much to add to...
What about splitting now? Give them what they want for now. Let them build new q. cells. In ten days destroy the q cells again. Leave the one hive queenless for a day then combine with the q. right...
Foundation-less is best. It has to be new, never laid in, comb (no cocoons in it.) The closer to white wax the nicer. Don't uncap, the customer does that.
Radical bee,
check out Pioneer Plastics....
LOL True the system is bad. But if it compels me to lie I enjoy every bit of lying to it. ;)
See, I am worse than you! :)
C'mmon, brac, I don't know what you were doing when you were 15 but I wish I was as articulate and focused and mature in my interests as Nicole.

I tried my hand at queen rearing for the first time this year. Some of the problems I ran into I see in your situation as well. Here's my novice opinion:

1.) is it too late to start here in...
Just voted. A good cause for sure.
They ask for first and last name, date of birth, and an email account.
I have a special email address set up just for sites that say they will not sell your...
Table saw method works great for me. Seems safer than a router bit too. No power tool is safe so I use a pushstick when cutting the bevels.
Free swarm removals in 30 miles radius.
Average extraction is $500 and that's the only estimate folks will get from me. I've never done one under $250 or over $750 so the range is not that great....
You'll find a bee colony. A swarm is in a temporary location (hours) while the bees look for a new home. The colony will probably be in a cavity (a hollow tree, somebody's home or somebody else's...
Did this happen in a lang hive or in a TB with frames. If in a Lang, just remove the whole deep box, place on its side there will be much less bees in the air, they'll be a bit confused but much...
Building cross comb to the supports is not a problem, easy to cut through. Propolising the bars to the supports will be a bit more of a problem as the styrofoam will give you little support for hive...
