    Re: foundationless frames

I have pretty good success just breaking out the wedge and leaving the step for them to build on. It doesn't take much.

1st of April and no sustained flow is pretty unusual. 1st week of April is usually when my phone starts ringing for swarm calls, but I'm not expecting it will this week. Crimson clover is nowhere...

Re: Bottom Boards Loaded with Sugar

Not sure what the hardware cloth was about, but wet newspaper usually works. Early spring was quite warm here. That may have had a effect. Wetting the sugar well to harden it is required.

Navasota is nice this time of year. Make the drive. See if anyone else within 50 miles of you has an order. They might just buy your gas.

    Re: Table Saw

Actually, Greenville, Tx had electricity in 1890. Before that they were run off a line shaft and a steam engine, still not much difference.

Here is an image prior to 1900 published in Harpers of...

Re: What air compressor do you have?

Quincy is just about the only comporessor that is pressure lubricated like your car engine instead of splash lubed. Unless they are run dry, they run just about forever. Not every Quincy. Of the...

The Table Saw Book, any edition should be fine. Tablesaws are pretty much the same since about 1910 or so.

Re: What air compressor do you have?

I just upgraded from a Makita rattlebox to a nice older Quincy 210 with a 60 gallon tank. You can barely hear it run.

    Re: Table Saw

The saw frankly doesn't matter as much as the fence. Get a Biesemeyer or a good clone of it on whatever saw you get. The only other style of fence I would consider is a Unifence, but I really...

    Re: New fresh cut lumber

A 10" green board will be considerably less once it's dry. The ends will usually split badly if you don't paint them with glue while drying. Stack with stickers, cover with tin, and check back in a...

The dishwasher works too, and doesn't tear up the veil. Also works well for caps.
  15. Re: This is what a queen that produces MEAN bees looks like.

Nice job of finding and isolating the queen. I use those kind of queens in 5 frame nucs to produce brood and draw wax for other hives.

Re: Splits -Tips for Finding the Queen

The only negative to that approach is that you have to leave that box on the bottom. Sometimes it's nice to be able to rotate them.

Re: Making Splits with a purchased queens

I don't bother with waiting a day. My nucs accept new queens just fine when installing them as soon as the split is made. In fact, it helps with drifting if you already have a queen in the box.
