  1. Re: Beginner Questions - Alternatives To Sugar Water

If you build your top bar hive so that a Lang frame will fit in it, you can get a nuc and then just put the frames in the hive (search for long lang for info).

If you use a 19 inch top bar (or...
  2. Re: Electric fence where ground rod is not possible

A hammer drill would set them in solid rock if you don't like the mesh idea. An expansion bolt (metal, not a plastic shield) in the hole should make reasonable contact. Use several holes spaced...

Re: Bee entrance 30ft and 60 ft uo in tree

You could have a tree guy climb the tree and leave some pulley or block and tackle rigged above the entrance. Then when you want to service the trap you rig a bosun's chair or swiss seat and rope...

    Re: Hive color question.

Colored markers before you apply varnish should work. Permanent markers on top of the varnish would be less permanent but should work.

It's not clear what bees are sensing when they orient...

Disclaimer- keep in mind that my knowledge is totally a distillation of what I have read.

If the original queen was poorly mated she may have layed most of those drones, The bees would figure this...

Re: Bees have made a home in my house

For years in my youth there were bees between the roof and the ceiling of our house. I don't think my mom even knew they were there. This was before mites and the other plagues that affect bees now...

    Re: Need Opinions

Many say that laying workers can be corrected by several cycles of insertion of young brood into the hive. Thus one might infer that it is the presence of young brood or eggs rather than a queen or...

Battery power will work too- once a week or so you carry the battery to an outlet, charge it up, and bring it back. If it's real far I suppose you could swap it with the one in your vehicle, but...

Two aluminum z-bars with a piece of aluminum flat riding in it? I doubt that you will find it in your local Home Depot, but a specialty metals house would be able to get it for you.

  21. Re: How do you start a new package of bees with no foundation?
