  1. Re: randy oliver reviews a new Dr. Lu paper

Oh, that shiny and tidy and clean World the Bayer people present at such dinners...I sat down with Dr. Maus myself. Oh his wise words. His very kind words. His brilliant logic. The many studies he...

Unfortunately science became too political and there are too much inter-relations into the business world.

Re: OAV to formic acid in a hive?

If you heat the oxalic acid too hot, it simply burns and you end up with CO2 only. Little to no oxalic acid can be found if you burn it. No activity against varroa, too.

Re: OAV to formic acid in a hive?

After sublimation of oxalic acid under laboratory conditions about 54 % of the oxalic acid can still be found as oxalic acid. Formic acid is produced, but just 1 % of the initial weight of the oxalic...

It attaches to the heat gun. So in one hand I hold the heat gun+vaporizer, the other hand holds the power cord.

Re: Let's make a better vaporizer

I have a power generator on my truck and a long power cord. 25 Meter/27 yards. The power generator must be strong enough, because the heat gun needs a lot of power.

    Good cop - bad cop...

One who writes garbage, another to proof him wrong. And of course, if one guy is wrong, all others are wrong as well.

    Good ol' propaganda.

For sure. I treated >200 hives yesterday evening with the heat gun version - after work. So it is really quick. Apart from the gas mask it is fun to work with. You need a good gas mask. The thing is...

Talked to a bee scientist who works on bee genetics. As far as I remember he told me that the drones are not haploid their entire life but only for their first days. Or so. Has been some time ago,...

Re: Is it late to start a warre hive

Continue to feed, but very slow, just a bit at a time.

Place pollen patties to give them a push. (Don't know if you have small hive beetles. If you do, take care.)

Same is true for small cells or smaller cells. I am using 5.1 mm foundation and it adds up a lot of cells per comb. Normal comb has 5.4 mm and this means 3.75 cells per cm². 5.1 mm = 4.4
    cells per...
