Michael I live in an extremely rural area mostly mountains and wooded not even very many hay pastures in their forage area.
I did find out that in my area Arkansas valley (electric company) is...
Ok guys I really need help with this one. I know the pictures aren’t the greatest but best I can tell it’s some kind of insecticide poisoning. That’s just my thought if anyone else has any guesses,...
hi roland. always good to see another razorback on here.
I was gave a hive that was queenless with no eggs or open brood just a small amount of capped brood and bees (about enough to cover 4 or 5 frames). I started giving them a frame of eggs and brood...
could it be a small after swarm?
I know this is not the answer you are looking for but that question is like asking which religion is the right one. Everyone is going to have a different opinion and you’ll have to pick what is the...
check your local feed store and ask for "hog rings". the large ones that the co-op here has is just a bit smaller than the hive staples i bought from rossman but would work just as good.
Welcome :)
My condolences to you and Mr Tompkins family.
it's always hard losing a mentor and friend.
I think Riskybizz put it best "God needs good BeeKeepers up there too "
How far away from where my hives sit can i place my uncapping tank and buckets to let the bees clean it up but not set off a robbing frenzy?
Or will open honey set off a riot no matter where it’s...
i'm not sure about the feeder you described but if its made like the hive top feeder you get from rossman apiaries you don't use the inner cover at all while the feeder is on.
Keep in mind this is from my limited experience others on here can advise you much better than I.
If you place an open feeder too close to your hives I think that could set off a robbing frenzy.

When using the wedge bar turned sideways as a comb guide, do you need your hives to be level all the way around to get comb drawn strait?
Mine are level from side to side, but tilt slightly to the...
save those frames of old comb for swarm traps. old comd is supposed to be the best lure for a swarm.
add some lemmongrass oil with them and you should do great
ccar20000 thanks for the link.
i'm 96% sure the queen was not in the super. i was just not sure how the excluder would affect the nurse bees or the brood in the super. also if adding it would...
the ones i have bought came from Rossman Apiaries and are great.
but i really enjoy making my own, so i would vote for the table saw :D
my inner cover has an escape hole in the front. is that enough room for the drones to get out?
no, one deep and one medimum for brood chamber. and all medimums for supers.
the top brood box with the 3 frames of honey is the medimum
i could never see eggs either even with my reading glasses, so i went to walmart and got a 97 cent magnifying glass and now have no problem at all. i just have to be careful holding frames with one...
I noticed my queen has been laying in the bottom super. There were 2 frames almost full of brood and a few capped drones scattered around on other frames. I checked the frames did not see the queen...
If it was collected last summer it could be from bitter weed. you’re a little east of me but here the bitter weeds were thick and about the only thing blooming during all that hot dry weather we had....
