    Re: Brown Honey?

Interesting. I live quite close to you! My fall harvest last year was dark and I believed it to be goldenrod. So far this year I haven't extracted any but it looks to be very light in color. I wonder...

Wow! You caught the swarm and made splits. If any one doesn't raise a queen you could combine.

Re: Ready for my new bees

Bee fever has no known cure! Some of the symptoms are looking out the window on a cold windy night with worry, building more equipment than you need, spending your winter Sunday's making feed for...

Re: using an excluder with new package?

I have only installed maybe 20 or so packages but I never had the problem. As far as the entrance reducer, I leave the narrow one on till it starts to get congested and then the larger one after that.

    Re: Cold temp install

Last year I picked up five packages from Mann Lake in Wilkes Barre pa. It snowed half way home. They recommended that I hive them asap. I did so and all survived well. That being said I had a fair...

Re: Where Should I move to?

This is an awesome thread! It's giving me food for thought. One of the main reasons I am thinking of relocating is because of "color" of the state that I live in. All this input is great!

    Re: Hive management questios

Here in Connecticut it is still cold especially nights. I believe they are still at the top because it's easier to keep warm. I'm still reluctant to finagle too much, if I damage the queen they're...

Re: Where Should I move to?

I'm not ready to retire but I will be 64 later this year so I guess I have to accept the facts of life. I live and grew up in Connecticut but this has become the last place I would want to stay. I...

    Re: White pollen?

I'm a little south of you. Is it white or pale yellow? I see a ton of that coming in that I believe to be skunk cabbage. On the other hand, as couple of weeks ago my neighbor saw them working his saw...

Re: clean up honey on extracted frames?

You could put the super on top of the inner cover and they'll clean it up nicely or just wait till they're ready for the super.

Re: Pollen. Is it still good or bad?

I try to save as much drawn comb as I can. They always seem to know what they want and clean up anything else.

I enjoy the whole beekeeping experience. That even includes assembling frames. It kind of gets me away from job stress. That being said, I glue and staple the frames, I staple both vertically and...

  24. Re: Starting a package with capped honey frames

I would agree that second from the outside on each side is my choice, if the comb was empty the middle would be my choice.

I love the way they draw the foundation that I coat myself. Almost...
