Mine is wide open, and I was thinking it could be reduced the other DAY as there wasn't a whole lot of traffic.

    I always wonder about that.

And jp beeman, fellow Louisiana boy... Does lots of removals this way and he has a massive black beard. How do they not get tangled and upset in the beard?!
  3. Re: is it normal for bees to be clogIging the opening at night.

    Large feral colony.
  4. Re: 4 lb package of honeybees arrives and 90% dead!

I shop glassware and from time to time those monkeys explode one. My customers recognize that we package them well and send us pics. We replace immediately (for customer satisfaction) and WE claim...

    Re: Top entrance question

My girls are new and after I took my top feeder if I put in an inner cover and propped up the telescoping top (my inner doesn't have a notch, yet). I didn't reduce the lower, but I don't think I saw...

Could he possibly have a loose queen in the middle of that?
  8. Re: Can sugar water be stored at room temperature, and for how long?

I've been feeding my two foundationless hives (one swarm, one large rescue) 2:1 (maybe a bit less) and they took it down and were building comb like no body's business.

Vit c pills crushed in, apple cider vinegar but that may incite robbing depending on method of feeding.
  11. Laws restricting killing/exterminating bees

Does anyone know if any municipality has ever created a law/rule that prohibits at least exterminator companies from being allowed to kill colonies?

I've heard of a few stories of ppl calling them...

A few days ago we got a call on the bee line about a swarm that moved into a speaker box in a wrecked vehicle. They didn't want to pay but said we could take the whole box and they would just come...

Yeah, sorry, that was what the OP was asking about so I made some assumptions I shouldn't have made.
  18. Re: Can I Place Frame Feeder In Empty Super Over Bottom Box?

If you are taking about a box with just the feeder, then they will build comb from your cover. Bad idea.

Jar on inner cover or other hive top feeder. I use the Kelly bunt style, I just had to make...

    Re: night time bearding

Ok, I'm kicking this up from the grave again.

It's 52 degrees out with a slight drizzle blowing on the front of the hive... Yet there are about 30 bees hanging out there.

    The other night it was...

Oh, and did I mention that we stopped and looked at a trap out on the way home? Knot hole in wood siding of a house. Trap out, walk away let them clean up after. $300 bucks.
