    Re: Russians around UT?

CCD is very specific in the way a hive dies off. Just because a hive dies doesn't mean its CCD. Most times its something else. Most Russians are hybrids. About the only way to get a pure line would...

    Re: Green Drone Frames

I use a frame with a starter strip and just cut out the drone comb every 4 weeks. I put the frame in 2 and 9 position if I have brood in the 3 and 7. If there is no brood in the 3 or 7 than I put it...

  9. Re: 5 frame deep nuc box or 10 frame deep for a swarm trap?

Neither, but if you are going to use what you have rather than make something new I would go with the 10 frame.

There is some really good info on what bees are looking for here....

    Re: Cardboard nuc box DISASTER!!

The nuc box I used has vent holes, and when I say I taped it down I only made sure the lid wouldn't come off.

I've never had a problem with putting a swarm in a wood nuc box. The only reason I had...

    Re: Cardboard nuc box DISASTER!!

Yes the wax melted and the bees were covered in it.

Not sure if it would have been two hot for the combs. Like I said it was in an air conditioned environment the whole time. I could see the bees...

Re: Can someone help with my math?

Here is what I come up with. If you pulled the queens on the 5th it would take them a day or two to even think about starting a queen cells. They will most likely use the youngest larva so I pluged...

I would do a mite sample and see what the load is. Look for other signs of viruses and such. Take a sample and look at the Nosema load. If everything looks okay than I would look at the queens. At...

A push in cage can go along ways in helping. If you use a frame of emerging brood you can put the cage right over it which would give young bees to help with the new brood the queen could start...

Re: Laying worker, how about this...

Queens are already mated. You would need to inspect your have and see if you still have eggs showing up from your laying workers or if they have just about stopped.
