Welcome from Milton
My old eyes aren't what they once were but is that a lot of dead bees in front of the hive?
I guess I am one of those who are not too bright because I see it in an entirely different way. If someone decides to sell his bees for $1.00 per 2 deep hive they are his bees and it is his business....
I need to move to North Jersey if that is the going price. I am one of, if not, the highest in my area at $125 for a full 5 frame. I have heard $80.00 quoted by one area beekeeper. I don't know how...
Yes, but it much better than the other alternative.
Two very good answers in my opinion.
I use one block high and turn so the holes are open. Fireants are a problem here and no sooner do you turn the holes down than the fireants build a nest there.
If I were suddenly in your position, with little experience, I would do most of those things ,such as more ventilation, which have been recommended but would add the following. Immediately clean up...
I strongly disagree with this disagreement!!! I sometimes wish MUCH stronger language was permitted here. By all means get started as soon as possible a lot can be learned in three years and a lot...
Noooo.Share the fish and encourage the vegan to eat. After all, if you are in that lifeboat long enough the vegan may come in handy and you don't want a vegan who is skin and bones.
I guess I will have to redefine my personal definition of cruelty to include furnishing a home, feeding, protecting and making sure they have everything they need to live a productive life.
I tried it and it works. I used 20# line since that is what I had on hand. That said,I have gone back to wire because, for me, it's faster and it's permanent. You will sometimes find a piece of...
I agree with the others that you need a larger unit and a radial. I have used the Brushy Mt 9 frame radial for over twelve years and it is still going strong. I intend to upgrade this spring to the...
Now, there's a mental picture I will never be able to get rid of.
If you ask the workers if they are allergic you will find that 99.9% are "allergic".
Welcome...and where is Jefferson?
This is just a wild guess but since you kept the bees warmer than the outside air,is it possible they flew out into the cold and died outside?
Make them this way and there is no robbing.
No Mex clover,(purslane), here yet but the henbit is starting. The bees are bringing red/orange pollen.
>>But how much nectar do you get from Mexican clover? <<
I can't answer for Mr Clean, since...
Lose the dark clothes and wear light colors. If you use any after shave , cologne, powder etc lose those too. Bees are scent oriented.
Here in north Fl I start Feb 15th - March !st depending on the weather. You want a good flow going and plenty of drones. Our hold up is waiting for the drones. The flow is plenty early
Well,I looked at your links.Interesting stuff but no blown off telescoping covers. All of this is moot since with a tornado it wouldn't matter what kind of covers you had.
How many of those tornados hit your bee yards? A hurricane gets everyone in a wide path.
I think the maples are somewhat temperature dependent. Here ,in the country they have not started but those in the city of Pensacola are in full bloom. Pensacola is usually about 5-10 degrees warmer...
