Re: Connecting plywood 90 angle joint

I use Coates style swarm boxes (8-frame) and nucs too...small finish nails holds it until the Titebond drys.

    Swarm trap location spacing?

Does anyone use a specific swarm trap spacing strategy? Other than locating other local beekeepers and stalking their swarms is there any rhyme or reason to your placement. Do you cluster in a...

    Re: hardware cloth

I could not find #8 at any of the local hardware or big box stores, had to order it on line. It wasn't too expensive and a roll goes a long way for making bottom boards or screening for feeders.

    Re: cedar hives 90% done

I enjoy making the boxes as much as keeping bees. Unfortunately, I think I have to cap out at around 12 (then swarm boxes and nucs). Nice looking boxes. I butt joint too, haven't had any...

Re: How long do most newbies stay with beekeeping?

MB, I can relate to your observation. As a new keeper a few years ago I looked at my bees as pets...when things went bad a felt helpless and disheartened. Once I changed my frame of mind to view...

Welcome, this is a great forum.
  13. Re: Was wondering if anyone would have plans they used

Jake, ditto the two links supplied by others. I use the Michiganbees site guidance minus the splines, and I started making 8 frame versus 10 frame boxes. I also use the Coates Nuc designs here on...

Re: Supers Made out of 2x8 lumber

Due to the weight, I would probably use the 2x8s to make hive stands instead.

BTW, here are two sites I used (in addition to frequent visits to Michael Bush's site). I don't use the spline as shown in the Michigan article, just a normal butt joint for the reasons discussed in...

    Re: pine vs cypress boxes

Yeah, I like to cut wood and nail boxes as much as tending the bees so I don't count my time. I can get a 1x8x8 for $4.80, six of these gets me five medium boxes. So a medium box costs me less than...

    Re: pine vs cypress boxes

I'm blessed. I have a saw mill near me that does mostly cypress...I can get the cypress for a couple dollars cheaper per board than I can get good pine at Lowes. Made my decision pretty easy.
