    Re: syrup making and delivery

We find that if the water is not hot enough to cause pain to a frequent welder, it takes way too long to mix.

As for using HFCS, with the equipment we have, it took longer to mix than using dry...

  7. Re: Queens and Packages: Slow release vs. releasing her right away

Wow, we must be doing something wrong. I bet we have direct released over 1000 queens in the last 10 years(not counting the decades before that), and can not remember EVER loosing a queen at that...

Re: Best ways to clean stainless steel

I would strongly recommend NOT using a wire wheel. It is believed that minute particles of steel from the wire can be deposited on the 304 stainless and promote corrosion.

    Instead I would suggest...
  9. Re: Queens and Packages: Slow release vs. releasing her right away

The first question you ask when you pick up a packages is "when where they shaken?". If 3-4 days prior to installation, you can direct release her. We have been doing so since at least the '60s with...

Re: Easiest way to requeen a drone layer?

Our first task in the spring is to clip one of the queen's wings(it's a right year). Then, when she turns into a drone layer, you calmly take the hive 30 feet and blow all of the bees out. The hive,...

About 7-8 years ago we collected some wild cherry honey for the first time in our verbal history. The "perfect storm" conditions where rather strong overwintered hives and a good stretch of warm but...

There have been numerous threads on this subject lately. I believe the subject has been thoroughly covered in those threads.

  14. Re: How difficult would it be to replace/rebuild drive unit on this extractor?

Don't get me wrong. IF the extractor is all 304 Stainless, and you can get it for, let's say 1000 dollars, and you stick another 2000 dollars in it, you are still half the price of a new 60...

Re: How many people use queen excluders ?

An excluder is a tool that can be used to increase HARVESTED honey, especially when running a single deep brood chamber. Do a search for the tricks that Ian pulls, he seems to use the tool with great...

  17. Re: Turning a milk chiller unit into a heated honey tank.

You might want to do some math comparing a natural gas(or LP) boiler to electric heat. The cost difference may surprise you.

  18. Re: How difficult would it be to replace/rebuild drive unit on this extractor?

Measure the size of the shaft that the platter mounts to and the width between lids for a pulley. Then drive to Bearings Inc in Menonmonee Falls/Germantown and Leonard and crew will set you up.

  20. Re: How difficult would it be to replace/rebuild drive unit on this extractor?

D Coates is entirely correct, Dadant does a good job of supporting their older products.

I do however question the prudence of investing money in that style drive. I used one like that as a kid...

Re: Trying single deeps and need tips please.
