Re: zero stores in deeps. stores in supers.

I misspoke, I didn't mean leave on the hive. I meant stored away in the freezer as an emergency surplus. But I also never considered how my wife would feel about having 50 frames of honey in the...

Re: zero stores in deeps. stores in supers.

I did not use an excluder. My intention was not to harvest honey this year, but try to leave one super per hive as emergency stores. One hive was a late bloomer so no super on that one, but why I...

Re: zero stores in deeps. stores in supers.

I believe they will cluster in the deeps. Stores on outer frames and the top part of brood frames. If stores were meant to be in the supers, than they would have to break cluster and travel too far...

Re: zero stores in deeps. stores in supers.

Thank you all for your responses so far. I combined all the heavy frames from both supers and made 1 super that is pretty full. I would guess about 80 percent. I put that super back on and put the...

Re: zero stores in deeps. stores in supers.

What would I do with the supers once pulled? I consolidated all the really full frames from both mediums into 1 medium. What if I put the 1 really full medium back on and feed like crazy?

I have a hive with 2 deeps but no honey stores. There are 2 supers with stores on top. I have 2 other hives with 1 med. Apiece on top. Those hives have only 1 deep with stores. Are the mediums...

Re: bees only utilizing top deep

I am feeding them now. 1:1. The top deeps are heavy. I plan on switching to 2:1 in a couple weeks.

    bees only utilizing top deep

I have 5 hives total (all doubles) 2 of them seem a little odd to me. They started off brood development in the bottom as a single. After I added the second box several weeks ago, both were...

    Re: bee sting alergy question

I find this to be true. I get stung a lot. My bees really don't like me lol. But even when stung on my head, I just get a mosquito bite type reaction. But stung on foot or hand and the whole hand...

    Riverderwent,
I appreciate that. For me, feeling foolish and a lil ashamed is not such a bad thing. my error came from over confidence. I needed to be humbled and reminded that the bees know...

    Dweber,
Now that you mention about clues and the more I think about it. I did miss a very important clue. I had a spotty brood pattern going on. I really have to learn to process all info at the...
  14. Re: first inspection in 10 days.... here is what I found and did... close call.

Lesson learned. I feel foolish right now and a little ashamed. I thought I was being logical and and my actions well thought out. turns out I was being very reactionary. The good that I can take...
  15. Re: first inspection in 10 days.... here is what I found and did... close call.

wow. I will be saving that post as a reference. I just remembered, that I dropped a frame today from that hive, and was afraid I killed the queen by dropping it, that made me look for the queen on...
  16. Re: first inspection in 10 days.... here is what I found and did... close call.

Thank you both for your take on this. I actually learned alot. I have to read up on backfilling and understand that more and what to look for. I remember the term in 1 of my books but obviously...

    slow drone,
I am not being argumentative at all here, I am honestly picking the brains of 2 guys that have some experience under their belts. although you guys may not agree, the debate does help...
  18. Re: first inspection in 10 days.... here is what I found and did... close call.

    Slowdrone,
The cells weren't where text book supercedure cells are located, nor were they where text book swarm cells are. The reason I assumed swarm cells is other clues. Like all frames working...

    Sounds like a plan. Thanks.
  20. Re: first inspection in 10 days.... here is what I found and did... close call.

I leave for vacation on friday... so, if I see no early stage larvae on thursday, the solution would be a donor frame from another hive correct?
  21. Re: first inspection in 10 days.... here is what I found and did... close call.

Clyde that thought never crossed my mind, however, the population did not look like it had diminished. If anything it increased. But I think I will look at them on thursday and look for early stage...

For those of you that have helped me in the past , realize that I am a very anxious person. Well, today, I took a breath and made a decision based on my own logic, and I hope it was the right thing...
