Very interesting... Thanks again
Thanks. If they had stores in two boxes, do you think the cluster could extend from one box to the other?
When it gets cold enough for bees to cluster, do they cluster in any specific place in the hive or is it random during the cold weather?
Thanks for the replies... It is a deep nuc. I was just a little worried about how much space the frames plus foundation took up.
Is a 5 frame nuc box with frames and foundation large enough for a swarm trap?
Is there a rule of thumb about how long it takes the bees to cure honey? I would assume weather plays a part but have no idea as to how long the process takes.
Thanks for the info.
Will only be moving therm about 50 feet or so but this is out in the country so dark is really dark.
I have a swarm in one of our traps and will be moving it to it's permanent home soon. I'll be watching them to try to figure out about when they're through foraging for the day but wondered if there...
Sorry, I was so excited about the swarm that I forgot the picture...
I hope they're moving in. Had no luck last year attracting a swarm but things are looking up so far this year.
OK... help me out, what is a honey box?
What is the preferred method of moving honey filled frames from the hive to the crushing/extractor area? Two of my hives are 180 miles away and this past year ( my first year for honey production...
Another hazard to watch out for....
Thanks for the info... guess I'll let the ladies have the final say.
About a year and a half ago I bought some pollen patties from one of the major distributors and to date have only used 2. I've kept them in the original packaging in the refrigerator ever since I...
I live in a suburban neighborhood and this past summer began seeing bees on some of the flowering plants in my yard. I have an old nuc box and decided to set it on the patio and see if I could...
Including the boxes?? I don't have a freezer that large.
Thanks for the idea on separating the wax and honey in the oven. Are you saying that after it separates, you remove it from the oven, let the wax harden and then just lift it off?
ABSOLUTELY!!! I already have the biscuit making's out for breakfast in the morning. Thanks for the ideas. Maybe next time I'll have enough to use the club's extractor.
Working on my first little (5 medium frames) harvest so I chose to use the C&S method. When honey quits coming thru the strainer but there is still some left in the crushed comb, is there a way to...
I used one of the bucket feeders on top of the frames with a medium super. It worked fine until the bees decided to hang comb off of the side of the bucket and then connect it to the side of the...
I had a second year hive that was started from a package and seemed to be doing fine. Had plenty of room and had been inspected a couple of weeks ago. About a month ago, I caught a swarm and set...
So far..... no problem with my summer ensemble.. I have been stung once thru this type glove though. Nice bees I guess.
OK... re-queen it is. Next question, do you wait until you have the new queen in hand before you dispose of the hot one or should you go ahead and remove her now?
Another ?... approximately how...
