Sticky: Re: Please Post your Swarm Dates?

That's wonderful. I have painted all of my traps to help them blend into their surroundings just in case someone e is trespassing and comes across them. Hopefully they will never be seen. Nobody...

    Re: Squashed my Queen :(

My bars are touching each other due to their dimensions. If you add spacers the bees will likely give you a cross combed mess. Just be gentle and when you replace the bars touch the bottom corner of...

    Re: no honey stores

I too have the same problem with my only top bar. It is new this year and has comb on 26 of 32 bars, not any honey, pollen, or nectar whatsoever! I checked every bar yesterday. Lots of brood and...
  4. Re: Why doesn't everybody make their own equipment?

I'm sure there is, mine is approx. -.050? Just guessing, but it was fairly simple to bend and looks factory. I just cut the width of one flange in from the edge and fold it under as it wraps the...
  5. Re: Why doesn't everybody make their own equipment?

Scpossum; I have made sheet metal covers from 20" galvanized flashing. I don't have a brake either, but just hang the edge off of my shop table and tap it down 90% with a rubber mallet. Works great!
  6. Re: Why doesn't everybody make their own equipment?

I have added 2" wide, 3/4" strips to both sides of the migratory tops you show and they last pretty good in the heavy storms here in NE OK. Kinda makes them into telescoping tops and it protects the...
  7. Re: Why doesn't everybody make their own equipment?

.40/ bf is a good deal. Should work fine and last longer.

    Re: Solid Black Bees?

Not a wasp, they are very similar to most bees except for the color. There are hundreds of them. I've seen and keep some very dark mostly black bees, but never seen anything like these.

    Solid Black Bees?

Can anyone tell me about these? I presume they are wild because they just appeared today and are fighting with and trying to rob my bees and I'm relatively certain there are no other beeks near my...

Sticky: Re: Please Post your Swarm Dates?

I did verify that a swarm has taken up residence in my bait hive! My first. Approx. 2# swarm. Temps in the upper 80's to 90 and humid. NE Oklahoma. They have started in a foundationless frame and I...

Sticky: Re: Please Post your Swarm Dates?

Appears to be a swarm taking up residence in a bait hive 7' high in a lone oak in the middle of my pasture. Lot of bees coming an going, but I'll inspect tomorrow to be sure. Sometime in the past 5...

Re: Never seen or heard of this before?

Pictured are two deeps. I could add a couple of drawn frames next time, but I can't see where the direction matters, it is not causing me any problems and if that is the way they want to go, so be...

Never seen or heard of this before?

I just completed an inspection of a hive to check the girls progress and this is what I found. I have gone with foundationless on this hive and they are building comb from the bottom up! Has anyone...
  17. Re: What price to charge for strong beehives I have to sell?

Well East side, I do know what they bring. Maybe I'm a fool, but dulley spelled out what he had for sale. Here's a local listing. http://columbiamo.craigslist.org/grq/4501698138.html
  18. Re: What price to charge for strong beehives I have to sell?

Oklahoma, hives you describe should bring $275-$350 depending on condition and contents.

    Re: Small Hive Beetle

Yesterday I inspected my hive and after 48 hrs. with screened bottom and oil pan there were 30 or more dead beetles. Hope it gets them all!

Great news! I installed a screened bottom and pan of oil yesterday. Hope to have the same results. I only saw two beetles, hope I caught them early.

There is a shortage of bees in my area of Oklahoma due to the severe wildfires for the past several years. (The prolonged drought has contributed) I look forward to the days when the bees can...
