Re: Bomb Cyclone to hit US next week

We always have road construction; even when it is "winter" with temps in the 30-40 range. :D it was forecast to freeze, but didn't make it down to 35. I think there is a lot of buffering in the...
  3. Re: November bee retrieval: How give them the best chance to make it through the wint

If it isn't feasible to move their comb, maybe you could extend the opening into a nuc with pvc; like a trapout without the cone. That would give space for feeding and expansion without ruining the...

    Re: Brushy Mountain Shipping

Oh come on. It is only an 500+ mile/8 hour trip to the Paris store and you would get to pay sales tax also. :) By the way, you would drive past a Mann Lake reseller on the way.

    Re: Removal sealant

Look for Gaffers tape. It holds really well, but doesn't leave much to clean up.

Re: Follower boards to reduce 10 frame hive

I certainly don't disagree with your definitions, but this means "follower boards" are used incorrectly all over the place. One example is http://outyard.weebly.com/follower-board.html and on KTBH...

    Re: Got Robbed

Here is a question... If you have 2 or 3 hives and put identical robber screens on each, won't they all know how to access the other hives?

    That sounds like a plan.
  9. Re: You can't teach an old, frame hive beekeeper, new tricks

That comb looks really nice! You could do a cut-out and put it into a lang. :)

I built a KBTH, but am now making lang frames. It may be a long hive or it may be 8, 10 or 13, but it will be...

Re: A down side to beekeeping.

I have that all the time - without anyone keeping bees around me. I just thought it was dropped from the trees until I got interested in beekeeping.

GLOCK - if you want, I'll take that dirty car...

    Re: Found bees

My queen had a nice 1 day old dot of paint on her back. :D When i did a post mortum the comb was covered with hive beetle larva, so maybe it wasn't me.

    Good luck with the bees.

    Re: Share your Beekeeping Inventions!

To expound on Santa Caras' idea: Try a long steel bar running down through the stack. Bent at the top and lock at the bottom. It would take a bit to remove when working the hive, but it would slow...

    Re: Found bees

Maybe they are mine that decided to take off Sunday. :) That would be quite a flight!

Maybe setup a box with frames on top and let them move in. But see if they are actually living there and...

    Re: Rose Hive Method

Those were my thoughts when I watched the videos. There is so much contradicting information in the ether. I'll continue to watch and learn.
  15. Re: New solution for AFB and verroa mites?????

It will add to their magnetic personality. :) Maybe we could steer them to the nectar we want.

    Re: Reconstruction?

Thanks for the feedback. I got sidetracked from this thread researching the "standards" in frames and boxes. :)

    Reconstruction?

Assuming you have a cut-out in a structure and material must be removed. Is reconstruction and repair normally a part of the job? Or, is it left to the owner?

How do you set a price? Estimated...

Re: Top Entrance Hive Question ...

So, to "side-track", how well would an entry in the middle of the stack work? Would they brood in the lower as "normal"?

Bifocals do the trick, but I've been stuck wearing glasses since grade school.
  23. Re: Howdy everyone from SW Texas (desert/mountains)

Howdy! It sounds like you have jumped in with both feet. I'm ready and waiting for a swarm to fly by - or a friend to split his hive. :)
