    Dead Queen?

Hey everyone! I live in North Carolina and we just had a fabulous weekend for doing a few inspections.

I went in both of my hives – one was thriving – tons of capped brood, honey, bees, etc...

    Re: Swarming hive? Please help.

Last Saturday one of my hives swarmed and they ended up a good 25 - 30 feet up in a tree. It was pretty obvious — I had looked out at my hives from inside and I noticed a HUGE number of bees flying...

    Best Time to Harvest

Hi everyone — I am sure that everyone else is looking forward to the honey flow as much as I am. This is my first year getting honey and I am unsure as to when I should harvest. I am aware that the...

Re: First honey with undrawn frames

Excellent! I was worried because I had never really heard anyone mention new frames AND the honey flow. The flow is usually 1 - 2 weeks, correct?

    First honey with undrawn frames

Hi everyone — I am thinking pretty far ahead right now, but I just want to be prepared, in the case that I need to do something. I got my two nucs in April, and despite initial troubles with one...

    Re: Melting Comb

Cool. What do you strain it with normally? Cheesecloth would be my guess.

    Melting Comb

    Hi all

I know that a lot of beekeepers melt down their scraped off burr comb. What happens if the burr comb has larvae in it? Do you pick them out or just melt it and strain them out?

    Thanks!

    Re: HUGE Hive in Attic

WOW. How would you get them to start in a normal hive though? Did you put the old honeycomb on the bottom? Is that farmhouse in use? It seems like it would be terrifying.

That's scary. What would you do with it once you got it down?

    Re: Where to buy woodenwear

I have been ordering from Brushy, but the thing about them is they have very high prices for beekeeping "commodities" such as supers, frames, foundation, etc. I checked out the Miller website and the...

When to Know When to Remove Honey

    Hi All!

I was wondering something very simple—how do you know when honey is ready to be harvested? When it is 70% is capped? Right after the honey flow? I know you're supposed to wait until it is...

How to Feed Normal Dry Sugar

    Hi All!

In the winter, if your hive is low on honey, I've heard that it is common to feed dry sugar. How would this be done? Sprinkling it over frames?

    Thanks!

What do you suggest rather than the beetle jails? The thing that caught me was the price and the fact that they are reusable.

    Cheap Material for Outer Covers

Re: Using 8 Frame Shallows with Mediums

I feel like an idiot for buying those shallows now :pinch:… When I got them, I didn't realize the usefulness of interchangeability and the increased amount of honey. Next time I'll get mediums.
