    Swelling remedy?

Got hit on the lower eyelid yesterday and didn't feel much. Got the stinger out quickly with no problem.

Today ive been blessed with a comedic amount of swelling. My eye has swollen shut and my...
  3. Re: Hive postmortem photos and question on newspaper combine

Ace, as I had mentioned before, the last 2 photos are NOT of this hive; I don't know why there are here and I can't edit them out. Honey is above and below where the current brood is, and above...
  4. Re: Hive postmortem photos and question on newspaper combine

Jonathan; yes, capped and open brood and a queen. Didn't see her, but didn't look too hard after I saw evidence of laying. There were a TON of dead bees on the floor of the box and many many more...
  5. Re: Hive postmortem photos and question on newspaper combine

Jonathan, my apologies, you can ignore the last 2 photos; I have no idea how those photos got in this post and they are not of this hive. That IS a poor brood pattern, just not of this hive.

  6. Re: Hive postmortem photos and question on newspaper combine

No drones that I can see; sorry the photos aren't closer up. These are all workers.

Did not see the queen, but it was cold and I didn't want the hive open any longer than needed.
  7. Hive postmortem photos and question on newspaper combine

Noticed the activity on one of my hives was dwindling last weekend and decided to do a quick inspection. I found 4 medium frames of live bees, some open and capped brood on those frames, and many...

  10. Re: Very strange problem with one hive - bees clustered on ground

Yeah, hive seems to be strong. If it's warm enough this weekend I plan to do a full inspection... But it doesn't seem to be any weaker than before from the entrance activity.

Colby, that 'tower' is an access point for our phone lines. Nothing in there that is being stored other than wires.

I don't have a microscope unfortunately... Although I may have to buy one...

  13. Re: Very strange problem with one hive - bees clustered on ground

Thanks to all of you for the valuable input. I hadn't even thought about tracheal mites (and didn't know they were a problem anymore). Since the lineage of this queen is in question (Russell...
  14. Very strange problem with one hive - bees clustered on ground

I have an 'issue' with one of my hives that I've never seen before... Hoping for a bit of advice.

I have three hives in my yard. 2 are behaving normally and are issue free. But with the third...

Check out country rubes. They are a forum sponsor and my experience with their dipped wooden ware has been good.

Solomon, I'm not sure what you are referring to. I'm not privy to a lot of the politics here, or whether nor not Valleyman is associated with RR. I'm just aware of the massive controversy...

Any updates to the list for 2013? I'd recommend removing 'russell' from the list given the information that has come to light in recent weeks.

Re: Robert Russell is a fraud

I'm still finding it hard to reconcile why my order was received and so many others were taken. RR's 'method' in this fiasco seems to have little rhyme or reason and I feel so sorry for those who...
  24. Re: What are these cocoons in my Mason Bee reeds?

Thanks for the help! I didn't even think to check the solitary wasps. I'll put 'em back out and let them be.
  25. What are these cocoons in my Mason Bee reeds?

When I harvested my reeds last fall I found a few reeds with these in them. I can't seem to find what these are. Any ideas? If they are a pest I'll destroy them, but I don't want to kill a...
