I wintered over 6 double hive bodies and have 2 left. 3 of the 4 deadouts had plenty of stores left on the sides, just couldn't leave the cluster and consume it. The 4th was a booming hive, and was...

    Re: Pine Shavings

I made quilt boxes with pine shavings to absorb moisture last year on two hives. It seemed to work quite well as both hives made it through the winter. They were both 10 frame double deeps.

Buckethat, I do live in Heron Lake and know the Mischke family. Don't see Tom very often but use to play some ball against him years ago. If you get down this way we will have to get together.

    Re: And another question...

I picked up 3 nucs on the 20th of May. 1 nuc went to a different location, sufficently filled out 3 hive bodies of 8 frames and did not produce any excess honey. It's wrapped and ready for winter. ...

    Re: Honey granulating in jars

I have used one of those round dehydrators. You have to improvise a little to find something to enclose it in. I used a stock pot turned upside down. The temp gets to about 105-110 degrees and in...

    Re: Winter wrapping.

I'm not from Maine but I did wrap my hives tonight. I understand you cannot wrap too early and does not hurt anything if you have proper ventilation. Upper midwest-Canada I'm talking about. Maine...

Re: Sawdust to absorb moisture in winter?
