  1. Re: This should be interesting to see if it affects the big box stores

Though I do have some concerns about over use of pesticides, I got a bit skeptical of the source when I read that he was holding a frame full of bees in the photo.

Re: Am I doing the right thing???

I am not an expert by any stretch, but I would guess the second swarm was with a virgin queen that needs to mate successfully and later begin laying. I don't know the exact time frame of that...
  3. Re: Difference in hives , Should I be worried ?

That sounds like a lot of sugar since May. If you are still feeding them, has the one run out of room and swarmed?
  4. Re: Things went from good to questionable, to bad...predators and the hives

It reminds me of the time I came out of a tent at midnight to a bear in the Boundary Waters in MN as it was checking out the food. Of course I had no weapon, wearing long johns and a tee shirt, with...

    Carrot on a stick.
  7. Re: Baking soda blaster for the application of powdered sugar.

Are you wanting to fill empty comb for feeding/winter stores, etc.? That would be 'application'.

    Re: Swing Bucket Extraction?

How about secure the frames in a bucket or buckets, find a merry-go-round at a park and strap on the buckets, then push it like mad. It would be a good idea to not have children on board.

    Re: Birds and bees

I think it's quite alright to take out the bird if it's destructive. We are becoming way too concerned about a bird here. It's pretty, but the world will keep turning if one doesn't exist anymore. ...
  11. Re: What? Swarm left hive, tornadoed around, then went BACK IN. What?

I wouldn't really know for sure, but could the queen have taken flight for mating and the hive sent her off, so to speak?

    Re: Foundationless comb came loose

If the comb is in place, they should wax it in just fine. If the comb is out of place, it could get some wacky comb started.

With foundationless frames, it's important to keep the frames strait...
  13. Re: Thermal scanner for determining hive location in house?

    Hey Dude,
I would think so since they would be warm. Try it out and let us know how it works. Any chance of pictures concerning what the scanner sees?

    Re: catching swarms

If we left creation alone there's not much of a way we could survive. We couldn't go out in the spring and pick morels, we couldn't shoot a turkey, we couldn't catch a fish..... Sure we can...
  15. Re: Temps too low / Novice Rushing a cut-out...alone.

I would think most people wouldn't want their life inside the home disrupted like that, as messy as a cutout could be. You could confine everything in a room, but you'd still need to walk everything...
  16. Re: Temps too low / Novice Rushing a cut-out...alone.

gh, your post just had some harsh or dramatic sounding words towards this guy's plans. I first took it as though you were standing against the guy, but give you the benefit of not knowing where...
  17. Re: Temps too low / Novice Rushing a cut-out...alone.

It sounds like their days are numbered very short where they have to be out of there by Monday. He has a great learning opportunity and a chance to save them. A 50 degree cutout would be better than...
  18. Re: Consequences of climate change on plants, pollination, and bees

Climate change is the latest cash cow and controller of people. The bees will most likely be with us and there will be struggles and hardship all the time with the ever changing conditions. Life...
  19. Re: Picking up packages with public transit.........

I have known a grown man to look at me in fear just mentioning having bees, and they were 2 hours away from where we stood. I can imagine someone like that having a heart attack at the sight of you...

Re: My (alternative) theory of the Bush Miracle

Concerning more humid and less humid air, in a given mass of air, it's 'relative' humidity goes up when that air cools down. Cooler air can't contain as much water vapor so the humidity goes up when...

    Re: Porch/ "balcony" hive location

If your bees are mad at you, you may have to stand out on the deck for a while till they settle down and ignore you. Could be a long wait, but I don't see how it can't work there on the deck. If...
