Re: Bees, Beer, and Gary Lee

I'm more surprised it wasn't Alabama.

    That is hilarious. Instant justice.

"I told him to get outta that warter" LOL

And I like the way he talks, and no I'm not Carl from Slingblade. Well...

    Re: Neighbor made my day

I like the term hush honey too. That's a better way to deal with neighbors and will surely save me some shoveling.

    Re: Aggressive bees

They have their moments. So far so good on the Frost queens. It's way too early to know anything definitive though.

Re: First Graft of the Year

My queen must have got lost in the mail??? :)

    You had a great year.

What are you painting them with and how are you doing it? I think I'd have to lock them down in a vice to get that sort of...

Re: Ohio Bee Box Company - Free Shipping!

A month or so ago, somebody on this website posted about using OBB's nucs. I would still love to hear a report about them and find out the dimensions of them.

Re: Ohio Bee Box Company - Free Shipping!

Yes, yes they are. I have 25 of them and will be using follower boards next year, or shaving frames down to get 6 in there.

Yeah, that tends to help people stay in business but nobody seems...

    Re: Miniature swarm

She may not be a virgin. I caught a small swarm, probably quart jar sized about a month ago. The queen was laying 2 days later. That small amount of bees ate over a pint of syrup in less than a...

    Re: Electric Uncapping Knives

I do believe it is Harley Craig that posted a video of him using an electric kitchen knife. I was impressed. Maybe he'll chime in. I have an electric hot knife made for uncapping. It's okay but I...

Sticky: Re: squarepeg 2015 treatment free experience

That's awesome SP. You said you're leaving 1-2 supers on your hives. Is that 1-2 and the deep or are you counting any mediums as brood chamber? I know you're like me and don't run QE's as a rule....
  12. Re: Nervous about my queen cage instal this morning, help!?

There is a very good chance that the split with more bees does have a queen. That's a good catch on your part. Noobish or not. :) Instead of checking that split for a queen and disturbing them,...

Re: Assaulted by the opinion lady...

The scariest thing to me is that she is probably going to cast vote.
  14. Re: what do southern Beeks wear for protection?

You ain't kidding. I wear a ventilated jacket with round veil and jeans. My bees aren't cuddly and friendly.

    Re: Plastic foundation

No, only on the remaining Ritecell that I have. IMO it would just be a waste of time on the Acorn. It's got a considerable amount on it.

    Re: Converting to small cell

First two papers use African honey bees for testing. Not hardly a true comparison.
Third one, "published" on beesource uses African crossed bees and uses brood breaks, artificial swarms, etc, etc,...
  18. Re: Applying Overwintering Nuc Techniques for the South

The way the drought has been, me and squarepeg won't get 60 lbs of goldenrod honey this year if we add all we both get together. The only goldenrod I've seen growing is runty. He's about 250 feet...

Re: Keeping a split in the same yard?

As billboard said. Don't lock em in, just shake considerably more bees in the split than you think you need. Many of them will go home.

    Re: Converting to small cell

Yeah. Find a scientific paper that backs it up. I'm not knocking Michael but I can prove any theory that I want to be true if I do my own testing.

    Re: Converting to small cell

I have read a good bit about it, but nothing more than anecdotal evidence supporting any mite improvements. Definitely not enough to cause me to change, but I'm not trying to talk you out of it.
