Re: Privett Bloom, Good Early Harvest

I hear that. Of the few hives I harvest honey from, they have capped 2/3rds of the top supers frames. In retrospect I should've pulled a frame and spaced for 9 to get some fat frames. Will probably...

Yes Sir! 7 deeps total on a few. Bottom 2 are pretty much all brood. Top 5 deeps all had clean drawn comb from last years harvest.

Re: Privett Bloom, Good Early Harvest

It's certainly not as prevalent down here as it is up north, but where I am at there is a good bit of sourwood in the area.

Re: Privett Bloom, Good Early Harvest

The privett bloom was tremendous down here on the south side of ATL. It has pretty much tapered off now. I have a few hives working on their 5th deep super. Most of that came from privett (based on...
  5. Re: Maxant 3100-H (hand crank model)... Should I order?

I started out with the Maxant 3100H-2 model (2 medium frames max) as I was only running medium supers. Last year I had to do a lot of crush and strain since I had moved over to mostly deeps and had...

    Re: Installed two packages today

    Congrats on the new bees!

Sometimes you get some 'confused' bees. One of my recent packages balled 100% under the bottom board for 1 full day. I ended up putting another bottom board on the ground...

Re: Stimulating comb to be drawn

I put a 2nd deep on one hive 2 weeks ago, as of today 8 of 10 new frames have drawn comb. I put a super on one hive 2 weeks ago, as of today 10 of 10 new frames have drawn comb. I've been feeding 1-1...

Re: Georgia Beekeepers - anyone seeing swarms yet?

I'm just south of Atlanta. As of last Sunday I had swarm cells in a few hives and lots of drone brood being reared. I did some checkerboarding and added more supers as required. Swarm traps are...
  13. Re: Drivert / Invert Sugar for Stimulatory Feeding

Drivert sugar is around 8% inverted sugar (retains moisture). Definitely not a syrup substitute but is a good supplement.

It definitely can't hurt trying CL. You may also want to see if there is a local bee club you can contact and let them know you have some bees for sale.
