Re: How close to have beeyards?

I would think 4-5 miles apart would be good. A lot would depend on the flora and the folks around you.

Re: Selling Honey stixs or straws

I was thinking about the same thing. I have a customer that sells all our honey and was considering making some for them. It seams the going price is around .25c each or 5 for a dollar. I was...

Re: Advice on moving a hive by hand

Oh Dave! I hope you didn't pass on the hive.

Lots of bees means the hive will be light since there's more mouths to feed. Honey is what makes a hive heavy. What I do if I need to hand pack a...

Re: Moving a hive ~400 miles

I like the plywood idea Matt. I'd also cut some pieces as strips to go between the plywood and the telescoping lid. This will solve the rain issue and give the bees good air flow.

    Are you...

Re: Advice on moving a hive by hand

You might be surprised how light it is. I'd stop in suited up and tip it forward. If it feels ok then try to pick it up.

Re: Moving a hive ~400 miles

I moved one from Snohomish WA to Linden CA. without any trouble or without doing anything special. It's about a 14 hrs 835 mi trip with no trouble. It was a two day deal because we had the kids. ...

    Re: Locating My Hives

Smoke them and screen them if your nervous about moving them but I'd just pick them up and go. Move quickly and smoothly. Bees hate it when you bang them around or you slide the hive and it causes...

    Re: Locating My Hives

How many hives are we talking? Try blowing a bunch of cold smoke on them. Mine will run in but then shortly after run back out. Work quickly or you can just move them when it's dark and then you...

Re: Honey straws. Will this work?

I came across this thread and I trust chef's opinion on other things. I met with him in Seattle a couple times and I'm trying to figure out if this is the machine he's talking about. I wish he was...

Re: Honey straws. Will this work?

That's my plan for the time being. I heard someone mention that the impulse heater needs to be around 750 watts. The one I have posted is 1000 watts. It should work out fine but I don't have any...

    Hello every buddy!

We have the opportunity to sell our honey through a busy farm stand and was thinking of making some honey straws. I know it's labor intensive but I'm ok with that right now. ...

    Re: Laying worker problem

Here's an idea... what if all the bees were shook into a small box like the package cage and then place the mated queen into it a day later. Corked off so you wouldn't have to worry about her being...

    Re: Laying worker problem

Sorry to say but it's time to start over. What I do in this situation is dump all the bees and use the boxes somewhere else.

This is off topic but when does the lavender bloom and can you share some info about the farms, address, phone number, website? We are hoping to go pick some this year.

    Thank you.
  19. Re: Is there such a thing as too many swarms?

I know how you feel. I'm learning I need to carry extra equipment or watch more Macgyver shows.

I was out today in a bee yard and was caught off guard by a swarm hanging in a 6' tree. Luckily...
