    Sticky: Today in the Apiary

I will stick this thread at the top so we can have sort of a beekeepers diary. It will be neat to look back in time, in time. Share what work you did, observations, stories about things that happened...
  2. Re: Frame and wax foundation mismatch or bad quality control.

A split bottom bar gives no place for SHB, unlike grooved BB.

Re: Who sells split top/bottom bar frames?

My thoughts on this frame are here: http://www.beesource.com/product-reviews/wood-frames/

I would recommend a wedge top bar for wax. Who is selling the SC wired? Vertical wires I assume?

    Re: Wall Street Journal---CCD Report

I expect one of the big players in the bee industry to have a good pulse on the industry as a whole and give a balanced report when interviewed. If he was misrepresented by CBS, where is the public...

    Re: Wall Street Journal---CCD Report

Yes, we expect that from the news industry, but I see it also comes from the bee industry.

    Re: Wall Street Journal---CCD Report

Here is CBS's take on the situation: http://youtu.be/IvV35zRZBCU

Seems like every time there is a news report on the decline of the honey bee it's always Hackenberg being the spokesperson for the...

  15. Re: Any experience with Western Bee Supply in Poulson, MT?

I ordered 10 and had 3 that were a mess.
  16. Re: Any experience with Western Bee Supply in Poulson, MT?

Yes. I wasn't impressed with the budget grade. You'll have knots where nails go, twisted wood, etc.

    Re: VSH bees and hybridization

I suggest people treat others how they want to be treated. Hard for me to get too worked up when you respond this way.

    Re: VSH bees and hybridization

I agree, that's why I asked for clarification. It's one thing to say you have firsthand knowledge of these thousands of beekeepers that claim they have not treated in a decade or more, but another to...

Re: First package install for me

You weren't looking for her? You didn't look at all the frames to find evidence of brood? Why did you open the hive then? Most would want to know with certainty what is going on so they could make...

  24. Re: When to increase the opening on the entrance reducer?

There's something not right with that photo. Look at the back top edge. The left side rail is higher than the back!
