    Re: Fall Feeding Strategy?

You fed too much to early imo

I feed them as fast as possible but in the fall as to not extend robbing. October. The only concern is moisture, provide enough ventilation.

    Re: Bee health-checker device

I don't get it. An inspection of 1 or 2 bees can guide your decision making process for the entire colony...seems silly novelty to me.
  5. Re: Cluster of bees under hive on Screened Bottom Board

shew out the bees and close the screened bottom board with an inspection board of something. They are probably too cold trying to extend the cluster.

Re: Opinions Needed (Bee Kill vs Trap-Out)

Hey thanks I understand the trap, no need for advice there.

What would you do in your club if this happened? Temporarily the president and I have removed the member from the swarm mailing list...
  9. Re: This is as close to Robbing as I want to get.

Were those harvested boxes? Italians are known robbers

From what i've seen....robbing of an established hive isn't that intense....its much less bees but you will see fighting at the entrance...

    Re: Uncapped storage

its definately not too cold to feed nor to have nectar cure. Cold air from the north is inherently dry. The Important factor for drying is humidity. It is warm inside the hive and cool/dry outside...

    Re: Bees not storing honey!!

Not always true but yes the rule of thumb is after the main flow. Very dependent on conditions. Typically they do not draw comb unless there is a flow and more space is needed. They will fill all...

    Re: Reliquifying buckets

Could be as simple as a plywood box wrapped in 1 or 2" rigid foam insulation with a wafer style thermostat, lights/heaters with a fan. The wafer is very accurate once set correctly with fan.

Re: Two hives or one to start

std practice/advice is 2. I started with one and then quickly grew, making my own splits and catching swarms, a few cut-outs. Local bee clubs can help you in a jam.

    Re: Reliquifying buckets

I like vances suggestion. Any kind of insulated room or enclosure with a heat source will reliquify honey. I've put quarts on hot driveway I've also put gallons in a hot car during the summer...
  20. Re: Absconding/swarming: Is it dearth or the Florida heat?

You may be spooking the queen to fly off. Are you doing a big full inspection of all the boxes...I usually don't try to mess with hives anytime during dearth or low flow. So for us July-August.
