Re: Steps to Legalize Oxalic Acid in US

It's simple, there is no money in it...not for companies, universities or the usda.

    Re: Beetle problem

I live in a heavily treed location, with little sun and year round hive beetles.

I've found that oil trap bottom board, traps in every super and a screened top board/trap can make the difference...

    Re: Preparing 2:1 syrup

For 2:1 I bring 4 cups to a good boil, take it off the heat and stir in sugar
I only stir for a couple minutes and it is completely dissolved
It's the easiest most trouble free method I've found

    Re: Freezers?

I was also considering a chest freezer for frames/bars
Do you'all keep it on or can you freeze for 72 hours then leave it sealed?

    Re: 40 mites

I would bleach bars/frames at anything over 5 mites in 24 hours for double height medium hives.

Re: The bee drum and drumming the bees

There is no evidence that tanging does anything other than cause noise.

I'm sure there are as many anecdotal stories of it working as there are water witching...which doesn't make either true. ...

Can you post pictures of what the bars containing honey, closest to the entrance look like?

  10. Re: Best option for getting a laying worker hive to accept a swarm queen?

    One thing I don't understand.
I've heard all sorts of experienced folks advocate shaking off the frames in front of the hive under the impression that a laying worker can't find her way back.
    I...
  11. Re: Best option for getting a laying worker hive to accept a swarm queen?

I was under the impression the best way to suppress the laying worker(s) was to add open worker brood, once a week for three weeks or so. Then when they start pulling out queen cells they are ready...

    Re: Digusting Sight BeeHive

Burning them right off seems rash, I'd open them up and see what's going on first.

Re: Testing a Electric Bear Fence.

I totally agree. I've never seen the stand as anything other than a way to hold it off the ground, I have a grounding rod placed in the middle of the bee yard.

Re: The 150 rule (heat plus humidity)

Where does the 150 rule come from?
There is no doubt that my bees are a bit more punchy here in 90 degrees and 70 percent humidity...they're edgy, like how i'd feel if I had to live outside in this...

    Re: Checking hives without gloves?

I only have 14 hives and work them without gloves. I like being able to feel the bees under frames and feel the difference in resistance when moving frames.
  17. Re: Are stings supposed to feel good, almost addictive

Hi, my name is Michael and it's been a week since my last sting.

I definitely feel good after the sting, you are not alone.

    Haredeman Apiaries Late and Unresponsive
