    Re: Bandits of the Beeyard

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will continue to keep the entrances reduced.

I can't move the strong hive 2.5 miles as I don't have a place to put it other than in my own yard. I need to...

    Bandits of the Beeyard

Hello all. I guess its that time year....the robbing time of year. I have one particularly strong hive (started from a package this year...Italians) that seems to be menacing all the other hives. ...

Re: Is there a secret to growing hyssop?

I planted anise blue hyssop this year from seedings....growing very well in my garden. The plants are probably about 4 ft tall. Interestingly, the honey bees don't work them much. The bumbles are...

    Re: Pretty in Pink

Unfortunately when I lived in Houston, I did not keep bees...so did not take notice. Its funny, once I started keeping bees I look at *all* flowering plants for bee activity. :)

iQueen - Queen rearing for iPhone Geeks

Has anyone used the iQueen app? I saw an advert for it. Looks to be a time/task management system for iPhone users that lets you fill in some basic information and then creates a time/task planner...

    Re: Starting to see ants

Ditto the comments on cinnamon. I had a real problem with carpenter ants, particularly beneath the cover. I sprinkle ground cinnamon once a week or whenever needed outside around the stand and...

Hambone - Spirea is a flowering bush...very popular in the NE. I lived in Texas for many years (Houston) and I do not recall seeing it there either. It is native to Asia but has been grown in NA...

    Pretty in Pink

Some shots of the girls on the Spirea. The last one was taken as the heavens opened and one of bees climbed under a blossom for shelter (kinda hard to make out...I was getting drenched)

    Re: Too late to re-queen?

I agree with the other posters...check in with the nuc supplier. If all else fails, there are still commercial queen suppliers that can help you out. I've had good luck with getting mated carni...

    Re: R.Weaver / B.Weaver?

I didn't have a great experience with R. Weaver. I ordered a package of buckfast bees from them. There were many, many DOA bees. Once I hived them, they killed the queen. Ordered another queen,...

Like the design. I think I'll try something like that...tired of trips to feed...but the brood chambers are getting there so this is almost over!

    Re: Need some ideas.

I'm guessing there is a problem with the queen. As others have stated, she may be dead, injured or MIA and the cut-out bees don't want to be in a hive that is not queen right. Is the other hive...

    Omie:

These are newly packaged bees. My plan was to feed them until they moe or less built out 3 (8f med) brood chambers. Once the honey supers go on...the feeding stops.

The last few days my bees have just been sucking down the feed. I put 1/2 gallon of feed on all the hives yesterday...and its already gone! I'm guessing the increase in consumption is due to the...
