Re: Gear for melting out honey directly from frames

Solar heat will melt honey combs less than half the year in my climate, and slowly at that.

The factory Bushkill comes with tape insulation on the edges. That makes for a great seal between the parts. I was able to buy the same at the hardware store. You can see it here in this picture of...

    Re: RoboVac Air Sealing

The Ridgid blower vacs specked for the Bushkill vac are 5.5-6.5 HP. I run with the vent wide open most of the time. So the power of your vac might be the problem.
  6. Re: What's the best way to get bees out of supers for extracting?

I video'ed honey removal today, with both an electric blower and gas. And with both a Dadant stand and a revolving table.

Here is the extractor tilted for draining. We add the pipe for little batches that we want to skip the filter box and pump, and go into buckets.

Don't most freezers have a plastic interior that could not take the heat of wax melting? I have been looking for a glass door freezer to make a solar wax melter and they all have plastic interiors.

Yes there is, you can see the gate valve and a bit of the pump to the right of the tank. That is honey on top of two stainless screens. This...

  13. Re: Did feeding/cost of feeding discourage you?

In my area you can throw bees into any box in spring, never feed a drop, and produce substantial honey crops. You will have to consult local beekeepers in your area about feeding requirements there.

  19. Re: Tips for finding the queen in a vacuum bucket or box

Use a Robo Style/Bushkill vac and then the bees are right away in a box on combs and the queen can be searched for as normal. The box they are in can also easily have an excluder top and bottom.
