Re: Migratory Cover doubles as bottom

Awesome. I built a couple today. Cheap to make. We will see how they work out. My apiary is expanding quicker than I expected.

    Migratory Cover doubles as bottom

I ran across a few photos where some people made a sort of migratory cover that also doubles as a bottom board. I'm thinking of trying migratory covers and would love to go this route. I can't seem...

Re: Are my bees chewing a bigger entrance?

Definitely no mice. I just inspected today. They have been slowly chewing this open over time.
I have them reduced because I wasn't sure if I should open it up more or not. I felt like the smaller...

Does anyone know what my bees are doing?
They seem to be chewing away the bottom of the brood box and part of the entrance reducer.
Should I open up the entrance reducer?
    This hive is...
  6. Re: New Beekeeper Queen cells and plenty of room

They have pollen. A lot of pollen covering almost an entire frame.

Is it a bad idea to take the frame with the queen cells and put it into a nuc with a few other frames and see what happens?...

One hive started from a nuc in June.
Drew out most of the frames in a 10 frame deep
I added a 2nd deep 2 weeks ago today. I checkerboarded the boxes

    Today I...

    Re: Am I feeding incorrectly?

Thank you David. Sounds like I'm getting ahead of myself in feeding. I just want to make sure they will have enough stores for winter.

    Am I feeding incorrectly?

First time beekeeper. I have one hive. I have a young hive that I started feeding using quart jars on top of the inner cover hole. In one of those two jar feeder things that is made out of a small...

    Re: Lessons Learned...

Thanks for the insight. I believe, as a new beekeeper, patience is a tough thing to work on. I keep telling myself the bees know what's best.

Dead Larvae in front of hive

I did my first hive inspection after installation yesterday. Today it is raining and I look out at my hive and I see one dead bee and a few dead white, almost fully formed bees outside of the hive....

    Re: Bees with Pollen

I did move them into a 10 frame deep with frames of foundation. There was lots of brood in different stages of development. Lots of larvae. One frame full of honey/nectar. I don't want to feed unless...

    Bees with Pollen

I am a new beekeeper and I see about 1 in 10 of my bees coming in with pollen on their legs, is this an indication that they are collecting nectar as well. I am trying to understand if I should feed...

    Re: Small Cell Foundation

Thank you guys so much. This shallow nuc was bought as a last resort to get bees. I had ordered a deep nuc from this guy, but he said the deeps that he had were not as quality as this shallow. He...

Thanks for the quick replies. They are definitely shallow frames. If the bees successfully draw out the small cell foundation, then the queen should have no problem laying in it correct? If they...

I am wondering this same thing as well. I had 2 nucs on order earlier this year, but they have been delayed and delayed. Last the supplier said was that they would be available the middle of June....
