Getting stung is part of the game in this business. When I get stung it's not the pain, but the itchiness the next day that lasts a few days.
All 3 hives swarmed this week within 2 days of each other. All out of my reach, but scouts are checking out some empty nucs I set up.
Oswego, NY 13126
Warm, humid light SW winds low 80's
I have a Swingview 8 frame from BonTerra Bees and it's the best bee investment I've ever made. Love watching them both inside and outside on their little "landing porch". My Ob hive swarmed last...
Observation hive swarmed at 15:45. Not happy and friendly either! Put my veil on and went to get some footage and took a dart to each arm. I will hive them later after they settle down. In full...
If your bait hives are properly placed have faith, you can lure them in there.
I am new too---I have 2 hives out back and I was told that stacking some hay bales around them can give good insulation during the rough sonwy winters in Upstate NY.
You know Wolfer I have to agree with you post. I have 3 hives... 2 very strong and 1 weak. I have been giving the weak hive 1:1 every other day and when they are out of syrup and I walk up with a...
Hi Tony, I'm over in the Town of Oswego. I hope you have have good luck with your hives this summer!
Yep Bon Terra is the way to go. I have a DW-8 3 feet behind me and the bees love it.
Seems like a good summer for NY State Beeks!
Actually European Hornets are a protected species in Germany, and considered beneficial. They tend to mind their own business (unlike yellow jackets!) and avoid confrontations with humans. Eastern...
All mine are coming back pollen loaded. One hive has a bit of attitude, but they are doing quite well for how dry it's been.
Got it! Thanks!

Hello Friends,
I started a trap-out about a month ago and started with a nuc box (empty with just lemon grass oil) and they really showed no interest in it. I figured out they were still...
Another great import from Africa.
Yes, they have a great memory IMOHO. If they can fly the distances they are able to and decipher their keeper from other humans to me they are the smartest insects in the world.
I got "reverse kissed" by one of my girls about a month ago and after flicking the sting outta my cheek the pain lingered for 2 hours after and the next two days it itched.
My observation hive swarmed today, Oswego, NY 13126 14:00 5/12/12. Temp 73 F low humidity, and light winds. 75% of the hive left, Assembled 25' up a spruce tree well out of my reach. Set out 2...
AHB=Kill them all, they have no place in NY
My hive is packed with bees. Lots of drones, no swarm cells yet. I'm in Upstate NY.
Go with a nuc...better chance for sucession and you'll bee much happier.
Here in NY YJ's are in a last ditch effort to survive and find food. They'll all be dead soon except for the mated queens which will be our trouble for next summer. Hate those YJ's
Never had a problem with BetterBee. Not that I order that much, but service from them has been great. Give them a try. Some of the people here that ***** about BetterBee seem to be disgruntled...
