Re: Flow Hive- this look interesting

I assure you I have seen the video:) that is what prompted my question. There are tubes that one attaches but there also appears to be Tube...or channel if you may...that travels below the cells and...
  2. Re: Sensors inside and the Bee hive. The tech behind the buzz.

Where I live outside humidity in summer is very high...most of the time it is raining or higher yet when about to rain. Expect outside humidity would alter inside humidity.
  3. Re: Sensors inside and the Bee hive. The tech behind the buzz.

Our hospital CO2 sensor is a thing called a capnograph. It sits in the endotracheal tube. Have no idea how it would work in a bee hive but think it could be done.

    Re: Best type of feeders..

I use frame, hive top or rapid feeders depending on the time of year and size of hive.
Easiest with no bee kill is the rapid feeder but they don't hold as much as a regular hive top feeder. On the up...
  5. Re: Keeping Nuc's and full sized hives in the same spot

I only have one yard. Nucs and full hives sit side by side. They seem to manage OK. I do put robber screens on the nucs.

Re: Flow Hive- this look interesting

How does one keep ants, moths and beetles etc from setting up home in the tubes? The bees seem to have access to the cells but not the collection tubes. I thought it was the presence of bees that...

Re: Just don't know what to buy

    Decide on two things first.

What style of hive do you want...lang,tbh,warre etc
Do you want pretty garden hives or simply something that does the job.

Once you have decided that you are on to...

    Re: Top feeder sealant

I used brown as it was the cheapest here. Works great. I learned not to get it mixed into the screen as then it gets difficult if you want to get the screen off while cleaning the feeder. I also...

    Re: My OB Hive

With the obs hive is it easier to determine when they will swarm?
I ask as have seen videos of folks overseas that time swarms and catch them in nets direct from the hives.
    I have lusted over...

Re: Flow Hive- this look interesting

I thought with Warre you add boxes below. Then bees occupy the boxes below, put the brood in the lowest box and honey above.
As a newish bee keeper I am then confused because I also thought that...

Re: Management changes for flow hive

What is a lot of $ to some is very little to others. We tend to judge what folks will, will not, pay based on our own knee jerk reactions. I think, as mentioned in another post, that some will think...

Which pollen trap do you prefer and why

    The title says it all.

I have never collected pollen but with around 40 hives I considering trying it this year.

Top, bottom, Sundance or other. There even is a plastic version for about $20.

What timing is used so you collect pollen without compromising hive stores. How long do you leave a pollen trap on each hive and how frequently can one trap from each hive?
