  1. Honey color...potentially pretty dumb question

I've been feeding my bees here a tremendous amount of sugar syrup the last month since I harvested my honey. In one hive they refilled 4 frames since then and it's surplus over what they need for...
  2. Re: brood chamber is in the top deep....what should I do?

Thanks for the advice. I moved the brood chamber to the bottom deep just like most of you suggested. No brood in the bottom at all...I didn't see any supercedures in process so I don't know if they...

I have a hive 3 deeps high....the brood is mostly in the top deep...should I:

  6. Re: Crud..problems in my previously stronger hive...insight needed please.

  7. Re: Crud..problems in my previously stronger hive...insight needed please.

With my front entrance open, I prop open the top lid a smidge on the back...I increase and decrease it depending on the temperature.
  8. Re: Crud..problems in my previously stronger hive...insight needed please.

So if it's mites, is it fatal? If not, should I put a pollen patty in there to try and initiate more brood production or ? What else could I be doing? They are really lethargic...no activity at...

Re: How cold is too cold?

Thanks for the insightful response. How big of a hole do you drill? Here it was in the low 20's last week and I thought those bees need to be protected from that...I think they have a greater need to...

    Re: Homemade Extractor

I bought the $150 version from Mann Lake...it's a plastic and manual version, but that is what my teenager is for...nothing like a gripy teenage girl to make the extraction even more fun, but she...

    Re: Neighbor complaint

I agree with the buying of an effective hummingbird feeder.

I had a neighbor complain that my bees were using his bird bath to get water. I wanted to ask him what the $%^#@ did you want me to do...

I have limited experience in this hobby, but I bought mine from a local beekeeper and really glad I did. I haven't had some of the issues others have had from buying packaged bees, although that...
  19. Re: Have you been turned off by a Beekeeping instructor?

Couldn't agree more. It's what I did and I'm happy I did when I read about the problems people have purchasing bees from CA.

Furthermore, who cares if people around you have bees? Plenty of room...

  22. Re: Have I screwed up? Troubles with new hive.

Do you mean the weaker hive? No I don't think it does. Couldn't find it. No brood so I doubt it.

Yes the thriving hive has one.
  23. Have I screwed up? Troubles with new hive.

I can answer that partially with a "yes" but here is the story...I would really appreciate your feedback. I'm fairly new to this beekeeping business.

My one hive is doing tremendously...lots of...
  24. Re: Question: If bees are fanning at the entrance...

I don't know much about this hobby at all and pretty new, but when I observed that, I thought they might be fanning out any residual smoke.
