    Re: Beekeeping Videos?

Those are hilarious! The narration is superb. Especially in the gas blower video when you don't start to narrate until the gas blower is at full throttle.

Re: Burr comb and frames seething with bees

Some of my hives generate a lot of burr comb and others not much at all. I use the same identical equipment everywhere. Radar is right that if you give them space to build drone comb next spring it...

    Re: Versatex for hive components

    Cleo,

He's just trying to get free equipment. Don't fall for it. He's a cheap bastard who uses T111 siding for hive boxes. He doesn't care what they're made of. He pays me next to nothing for...

Re: Super Thick honey foam during processing

    Another follow-up question:

When you extracted your honey earlier in the spring, was all the comb capped or did you fudge and extract nectar?

Re: Super Thick honey foam during processing

Heat rises so place the 100W bulb under your honey bucket, not too close or the plastic bottom of your bucket may get too hot. I cut down an old barbecue grill to fit inside the frame rails of a...

    Re: Versatex for hive components

I think Brother Adam would be disappointed if he were alive and read some of Ollie's self promoting post on Beesource. He would never name a simple cleat after himself. You're no D.Coates Ollie!

Re: Super Thick honey foam during processing

I put my 5 gal pals over a 100w light bulb overnight inside an empty stack of supers with a lid. The foams fades away by morning without getting the honey too hot!

    Re: Neighbor complaint

I must be as left as you can get according to Ray4852. I handle all the bee complaints in a city that is the second most densely populated in the US. In SF, there are over 500 managed hives that I...

    Re: MAQS and absconding

Well..... ok, use full dosage then. Sometimes you have to read between the lines and develop a 6th sense when it come to beekeeping. MAQS are great for killing mites but use common sense despite what...

    Re: Bee Vacuum Please

You know you can buy smooth bore swimming pool hose at any length as long as you have a Beevac motor like mine that's up the the challenge. I have a 30ft hose now but you could easily get a 40 footer...

    Cleo,

You're going to have to do your part to keep us entertained until Spring. Ollie and I are doing our best to stir it up but you need to help. Stop being so open minded and...

    Re: Bee Vacuum Please

I think in someways a Bushkill type vac is more gentle than knocking a swarm down into a nuc box. The "magic" is in controlling the air suction velocity. I've gotten so use to mine that I keep my...

    Re: MAQS and absconding

I rarely use full dosage which is two strips. One strip has given me a huge mite drop without killing any queens. You can't kill all the mites but you can manage their population.

Re: Thoughts on starting a bee club/group

As club officers, we do the best we can to stay objective and not tout one thing over the other. We're not hostile towards TBH or Warre, we just don't have anyone in the club that has any experience...

    Re: Acebirds one hive

    Brian,

For as much advice as you throw out I have to say I'm a little disappointed in your failure to recognize the beginning stages of a SHB infestation. We don't have SHB here in SF but I know...
  23. Re: Have you been turned off by a Beekeeping instructor?

    Cleo,

Take a break from your hillbilly life in Kentucky and get out here to the honeybee capital of the world. Ollie our bee master has a great deal to teach you. Also, I need you to present at...
  24. Re: Have you been turned off by a Beekeeping instructor?

Part of my responsibilities with our club is to find good presenters for our monthly meetings. I've tapped the best Beekeepers I know and and to be honest, most of them were not good at presenting...

Re: Thoughts on starting a bee club/group

Do yourself a big favor. Keep it informal and loose. Skip all the crap you have to do to be an official club. Why do you want to charge people anything? You don't need anything to start. If you get a...
