    Re: Making a skep

There's a jail somewhere with a block reserved just for miscreant bee keepers.

    Re: Requeening an Unestablished Hive?

It might be best to build a relationship with an experienced beekeeper in your area. Maybe join a beekeeping club.

Re: How to tell if robbing is going on?

Is there a distance within the foraging range of the colony beyond which robbing does not occur?

Never knew it was so easy ...

I lost 3/4 of my bees last winter. Frustrating, but I am still learning! The neat thing is I left empty hives from these losses in three locations thinking I'd get them in and cleaned up before the...

Re: Any one else read about the bees seized??

I understood the article to say that the owner had some 45 hives in the city. Too many by far! That is unless he had a really BIG back yard. I live in a small town and work hard at educating my...

    Re: craigslist post

Someone needs to lighten up. Maybe free removals are how neophytes get to be pros. Oh, and puppy breeders do occasionally need to buy new stock. I like my bees wherever I can get them.
  14. Re: apis cerana japonica Swarm Split with apis mellifera western queen cells

I can't imagine that there could be any true hybridization -- mixing of genes. Still, it would be interesting to see how a blended hive would organize itself. I'd love to look in on an inspection.

  16. Re: Is there a formula that you use for Distance away vs. how many hives?

You misspelled pi, so the formula won't work in leap years.

    Frustrating behavior

I purchased a Russian five frame deep nuc in April and gradually transitioned to all medium frames over the next month in three supers. At the end of poplar flow I noted that there was brood in all...
  24. Re: Big swarm in awkward location. Will this work?

My son / beekeeping pardner and I built a bee vac and just love it for getting at awkward swarms and even not so awkward swarms. We use a 35 foot pool hose which adds a lot of versatility.
  25. Re: Beekeeping, freestyle or formally structured? So what!

I'm sure the first war started over skep size or composition. Most of us are happier when our friends adopt our own methods!
