    Re: Overwintered vs new packages

Off subject, just curious as to what size supers hold 50 lbs of honey.
As a side note I always over winter Nucs and drop them in a standard 10 frame 1st week of March , weather permitting. As of...

    Re: Dead hive, guesses welcome

Were there any queen cell remnants when you examined the combs. Also were they fed sugar during August and September?

    Re: Treatment free honey production????

Just a casual discussion, since I've done it both ways treated and tf, I just wondered what other people's experiences were. I don't use sugar, HFCs, or pollen subs of any kind. I run 25 production...

No sugar, that would be Sugarbees instead of Honeybees

    Re: Treatment free honey production????

    Re: Treatment free honey production????

5 years TF, 30% losses, from 0 to 200 lbs per colony harvested per year, avg 65
1st winter treating, no losses as of today, 60 to 210 lbs per colony harvested, avg 110

Re: How many bees die per day overwinter?

Please take the time to study "fat bees" and the effects of Vitellogenin in honeybees and this stuff will make more sense

    Re: Checked 70 hives today

Checked 60 thru the holiday, only a couple that I will need to keep an eye on for stores. Will feed honey if needed as I try to stay away from feeding sugar

    Cordovan

These are a subset of the Italians. In theory you could have a Cordovan in any breed, since it's technically just a color, but the ones for sale in North American that...

    Re: Winter size experiment

They usually end up in the front of the box on all frames with Brood shaped much like 1/4 of circle. Honey and pollen up and to the rear on all frames, hope this makes sense

    Re: Winter size experiment

Just FYI, I carry 5 fr and 5 over 5 nucs thru the winter each year , no feeding of any kind and hands down they do better than full sized colonies. This winter I have 30

    Re: Commercial OAV... not working?

Is weekly OAV being promoted, if so by whom?
  22. Re: Help! Where to get a new mated Queen this time of year?

Once again I ask, do you have time before winter to get brood hatched before winter, before if you introduced her today it would probably be 28 to 30 days before the first bee hatches
  23. Re: Help! Where to get a new mated Queen this time of year?

Just curious is that capped sugar or honey? Secondly, do you have enough time to introduce a queen and get brood hatched before winter?

Re: 3rd OAV treatment mite drop

Just curious, how many mites do you think could emerge with a bee and re-enter another cell and be capped between treatments. Correct me if I'm wrong, but during brooding only 15% of the mites are...
