Northern Illinois with 3 TBHs: I strained about 15 lbs/hive, and I left about 10lbs of honey in each.

Swarming has been a problem for my TBHs too (in N. Ill). Even the first year with new packages, they swarmed. Then I went to 48" long TBHs.

This Spring, still had lots of swarms, but I wasn't...

I like the idea of an inspection checklist. But one may need seasonal checklists as well. What is done in the Spring is different than Autumn.

The theory is it wasn't the actual smaller cells that help reduce varroa. It was indirectly because the cells are smaller, the brood time in the cell is shorter, and the varroa can't take 'hold'...

Some have experience with foundationless frames reducing the varroa count. No matter the bee type/race.

Of course, there are other issues with foundationless (honey extraction is different), but...

I have 3 new hives, started in April. One did very well this summer, making loads of honey. The other two did not.

My plan was to leave the honey for them overwinter, so I wouldn't have to feed....
