    Re: Inchworms?

I found a red earth worm under my hive lid last night. This is about 4 feet off the ground. It has been raining like crazy but still I can't imagine why a worm would want to climb up the hive. :D

Re: Mating Nucs defended by Red Tailed Hawk

When I was picking up a swarm this summer there was a cow bird picking up bees. She wasn't the least bit afraid of us.

Re: To buy or not to buy

I bet you could turn around and sell them for a profit if you wanted. A hive around here is $200 without the honey or place to put them.

    Re: Blue Honeybee

Just a guess but it looks like a mason bee from here. (I don't know why it would be there, I thought they were dormant this late in the year.)
  6. Re: Looking for someone to remove a LARGE hive from outside a church in Marysville, W

I don't know how you would put them on this site but you could put them on a free service and post a link. Like photobucket or yahoo.
If they have only been there a week I would pay a lot of money...
  7. Re: Looking for someone to remove a LARGE hive from outside a church in Marysville, W

I wouldn't and I suggested that to the exterminator but I don't know what they are thinking. Maybe if there was a high wind or an earthquake that the combs could fall on someone. They are...
  8. Looking for someone to remove a LARGE hive from outside a church in Marysville, WA.

I got a call from an exterminator that there was a large hive under the peak of a church. I went to look and sure enough there is a largehive that has made their home at the peak of their building. ...

I bet if you wait a year or so Harbor Freight will have them at 1/2 that cost or less!

Where did the capping wax go?

I have only taken a single frame of honey, it will be good if I can make it without feeding the bees through the winter. It gets old to hear my wife complain about it.
    Anyway I took the cappings,...
  11. Re: Large Swarm/ Cutout and what to do now?

I went through the top box tonight and was surprised at how much nectar there was and there were some brood, I didn't go through the other 4 boxes, didn't have time but it looks like they are doing...
  12. Large Swarm/ Cutout and what to do now?

Our nectar flow for the year is pretty much done, there may be a couple more weeks but it is in a downward spire.
I got a call that there was a swarm on a guys house so i got out there as soon as...

Re: Cotton rope and Mineral Oil

My wife swallowed about 1/2 cup of mineral oil to induce labor at her doctors direction. It worked as well as made her very regular for a short period. She said it wasn't a very pleasant...
  14. Re: 4 year old stung on foot...what to do for comfort?

DMSO works great to get the swelling down if you don't mind the taste. Dad is a vet but I understand you can get it at the feed store for horses. DOn't put on too much or it will burn you.

Re: Showing off my nuc's queen cells

The nitrile (blue) gloves work great but they tend to tear when they stick to the propilous. I have gone to no gloves and find it is a lot easier and don't get stung that much. I would recommend it.

Re: Is this a bee or a wasp?

I believe that all bees are that color when you remove all their hair. If you notice the robbers tend to all be darker and when you look closely it is due to the fact that they have had their hair...

    Re: dead out to compost

Yes, the ants will clean out the honey if there is any left. If there is any comb left though I would leave it for the next bees, you just need to get the ants out.

Poll: Re: Sugar feeding VS honey feeding

I don't think the math is right, how can you take off that much honey and consider replacing it with 20 lbs of sugar comparable? Wouldn't it take a lot more suger to be equal in calories? (I don't...
