    Re: Help identifying pest

Much clearer picture. I can't I.d. it though. Although with this picture, I'm sure someone will be able to. I have a feeling what ever they are, occupied the vacant hive and some other pest...

    Re: Another post about mites...

I used maqs and was very pleased with how it all went, however, you must follow their instructions to a tee. I would actually give yourself a few degree cushion on the high end of the temperature...

    Re: Help identifying pest

You don't by chance have a camera with a macro lens do you? The subjects in question sure are small. Are you sure it isn't scat? Did you see something that made you think it was a living thing?...
  4. Re: How conductive is a tree? Creative fencing and grounding question.

    Misread post. Disregard.
  5. Re: Bear-proofing that is safe for children and pets?

Go with the electric fence. Your kids and pets will only touch it one time.

Re: It's harder than I thought...

I know first hand what you are feeling. I was very nervous and anxious as well. 'Oldtimer', a member here picked up on my vibe in my panicky posts (others did as well), and he addressed it very...

Re: Whats a queenless hive sound like???

Novice Beek here, and I can only share with you what I experienced this past weekend. I approached the last hive to be inspected. The second I popped the outer cover, they were on my hands like...

Re: Proof you dont always need a suit or smoker!

So what was the point of this video actually? were you showing off or maybe just getting a little over confident? It's cool that you want to have that intimate relationship with your bees, but I'm...

    Re: Apiguard (thymol) Question

Are you sure it just wasn't orientation flights. You said it only happened around 4 pm. I know my hives usually do orientation flights and seem to be on a schedule (and it usually starts between...

    Re: Hello New Beekeeper here

I would post the query in the main beekeeping forum. As for your dilemma. I'm sure it is no dilemma at all. Most first year people think everything is a huge issue. I know I did and sometimes...

    Re: Hello New Beekeeper here

Welcome. So what's the question? I know it's the welcome forum but what the heck. I'm only in my 3rd year but can probably field a basic 101 question.

Re: What kind of bush is this?

Hmmmm clyde has a good point. I just looked at the picture closer and compared to elderberry in the woods behind my house. The leaves are not a match. Also the elderberry is more of a stalk or a...

Re: What kind of bush is this?

Good question. And, I don't know lol. I have to assume no because I believe rhododendron is poisonous and I've never heard of people being poisoned by that. Again, not an expert over here.

Re: What kind of bush is this?

I agree that it looks like elderberry, but please research how to tell elderberry from pokeweed (pokeberry). It is hard to tell from the pic because the berries haven't bloomed yet. Pokeberry...

I actually did read last week that it was approved and passed. I just can't seem to find it as I have already invested way too much time into this thread. I guess my original point is, there is no...

Re: Police made me move my hives..

I did not read the Georgia laws and that is why I also gave NJ as an example. This one I gave a pretty good read, unless I missed something or misinterpreted the read.

Re: Police made me move my hives..

100 percent false. Someone here states that Georgia over ruled and made it illegal for municipalities to forbid beekeeping. And where I am from here in jersey, same thing. It actually just...

Re: Police made me move my hives..

Then go and fight it at a state level. If enough of the bee organizations in a particular state work together, it can be done. I don't think anyone said it would be easy.

Re: Police made me move my hives..

Yea, not in this particular case. In this case, the ordinance is based on ignorance. Not some anti bee agenda. It is our job as bee enthusiasts to educate this ignorance in a diplomatic fashion.
  24. Re: Are my hives aggressive enough for intervention?

I'm having the same issue since the summer kicked in and the flow ended. This is what I do. Instead of smoking the bees alot, smoke normally. 2 puffs across the top. Then smoke the heck out of your...

You totally missed brettj's point. And you do feel you are above the law. Your town ordinance says that you can not have them and you said you have them hidden because it is your god given right. ...
