    Re: Question about cell size

I am pretty sure just about any queen would lay dornes in that cell size. If I recall correctly its the depth of the plastic cells in the flow hive that resist the queen laying. She cant reach the...
  2. Re: How many nurse bees does it take to make a queen cell?

My only observation with small queen cells did not go well. I had the pleasure of hosting a Glenn carni breeder queen for a friend and some how she died in transit to my place. In desperation I...

    Re: Mark queen method?

I have had the best luck with the $2 Elmer's Walmart florescent pens. You have to shake them for ever to get the ball inside to mix the paint up but once they are mixed the paint holds up for...

  5. Re: Do bees have better health in a TBH ?

You say that you don't bother or take honey from the top bar hive. Do you open up your Lang's more often and take honey from them? Perhaps simple management differences are causing the different...

  8. Re: Do Queens lay multiple eggs per cell?

    So Michael,
Were you trying to create a new double egg strain of bees? Just kidding but I am curious if the trait pass down to any of her daughters?

Re: Is this the proper oxalic acid ?

I sure hope its the right stuff. I bought 45lbs of it last year! The MSDS sheet that came with it said it was 99.7% pure....or something close to that....foggy memory here.

  12. Re: Beekeeping in the snow with a 3 year old: Photos

Not quite all live. I lost two from my home yard in my early January inspection. (3 total hives lost out of 109 total hives in my operation) Still I am more than thrilled after a few winters of...
  13. Beekeeping in the snow with a 3 year old: Photos

My 3 year old nephew helped me check on the 77 hives in my home yard last Sunday.
Despite the snow it was 50 degrees so we were quickly checking hives to replenish sugar bricks if needed and add...

    Re: French frame buidling jig

I also apply glue with a brush but do it to both ends of ten endbars at once and then slip them on to the top bars. I love the silicon brush idea and will have to try that. I pour 3/4 inch of...

    Re: Burning Sumac Berries

I burn staghorn sumac sometimes. Its what my father always used when I helped him as a kid and has to be the best smelling smoke. Mostly I use punky pine wood chips as they are easy to light and...
  16. Re: Nuc install with foundatioless frames...

Splitting up the brood nest during cool spring weather can really set the hive back due to chilled brood. Sadly I know from the school of hard knocks. I would put the new frames at the outer...

    Re: Natural Comb Frames?

Funny my bees nearly always draw out the plastic or wax foundation before starting on the foundationless. I have over 1500 frames of each so its not a one time observation.
