I use a shifter and just shake it over the hives. Seems to work well for me. I'll let know more once spring comes and i split my hives again.

It is getting late but you can try to raise a few any ways. The way I do it is in mid May or early June making 3 frame splits from my main hives. I place the one with the old queen off to the side...
Sorry to hear about that. This is my main honey source besides blue berries. By july they are almost dry and come the fall the load right up with honey providing it is not cool and wet.
I would let her have the three boxes even if they are full of brood. She is building for the winter and there is still the golden rod that will be blooming plus the asters. I would let her do her...
Another suggestion is to use powder sugar every 3-4 days for a three week period. The powder sugar seems to knock down the mites pretty good especially if you have screened bottom boards. I know its...
It's not as easy as 50-50 chance. Queens mate with up to 20 drones. To find out more please take a look at this site and I hope that it explains it better for you. As stated before if you have mite...
If she is that good I would keep her. She is heading a large coloney and next year you can put her into a nuc and keep taking larva out to make new queens. Queens can live up to 5 years so pinching...
There is another reason, is there a low in the honey flow? They will take out brood too if they are not bringing enough honey or pollen.

Looks like you have no queen but laying workers. If you have access to brood give the hive a frame or two with bood in all stages. They might try to raise one on thier own. If you have laying workers...
I have screened bottom boards. I do not use chemicals any more with my russian bees. I strickly let them work it out. I'm more into natural selection and the bees seem to be responding to my working...
Depending on what your looking for, I pick a queen that has good traits, put one or two drone frames for her to lay in. This hive will be sacrificed in that I will not take the honey off but will...
Brood helps but is not necessary. If there are no eggs or larva then I would order a new queen and have her in a 2x2 inch cage with one or two attendants. See this link to get a better idea of what I...
What I would do and always done is make a cage of 2x2 inches. Place the queen in there. Here is a good example of what I like to do

This has always...
Hi please see

They have the best way to intoduce a new queen. Once the queen starts laying she will then be able to be removed from the cage with...
Hi Mushgirl, well I would check to see if the queen is in there. Be careful not to destroy any of the queen cells. They might be supersedure cells. New packages sometimes do that. Don't be afraid to...
Hi, I use an 2-10 amp battery charger. I set it at 2 amps and it imbeds the wire nicely into the wax. The clamps are attached to insulated speaker wire and then one of the wires is connected to the...
Do we all really need to hash this out again? Look at all the 'recalls' of dog food, tooth past, antibiotics in food or......
Heck you could sell them honey for 20 cents a lbs loaded with...
I raise my own and once in a while I will buy a queen just for drones or even raise a queen from her if she proves to be good. You need to bring in new blood once in a while so that you have...
If it was me I would try only one or two queens. Don't want to lose the whole batch.
First put all the sealed brood down on the bottom box with the queen, then a queen excluder, next an empty box...
I would not go smaller that 300-400 workers. You need them for protecting the hive, keeping the brood/queen warm. You need some for forging since they can not get all the proper nourishment from...
Up here in Central NY (Central Square) I have nucs that I have placed over 3 story hives. These nucs are 10 frame medium supers. I have found that there is a small problem with moisture but I think I...
I take the queen right hive, put all the brood in an upper story without the queen. I then put the queen on the bottom box with empty frames and some sealed brood, next queen excluder, next an empty...
I use 10" conc blocks, on top of that I have 4x4 posts framed in on 2x4. This keeps the hives up about 18 inches and if a racoon, or skunk tries to scratch at the hive the will be exposing their...
