  1. Re: going to do a cut out this morning...pics to follow

Well things went OK. We weren't able to save much comb at all. It was wonky all directions. We used a bee vac and it seemed like there was an endless supply of bees to vacuum. I was carefully looking...

  3. going to do a cut out this morning...pics to follow

I was called to see if I would be willing to remove some bees from an old farm pump house. We looked at it last night and it might be clear sailing. Time will tell.

    Thanks

    Re: swarm pic

    Nice!

I got a call for a swarm on May 18th. When I arrived I asked the caller what he wanted me to do with the other swarm that was 10' away. He said oh-my-gosh.....take that one too.

    I...

Re: Only interested in one frame

If you haven't already, I would add a 10th frame to that box. They will draw burr comb all over the place if the bee space isn't right.

    Thanks

  7. Re: How well will this fence charger work for bear's?

    Well, the fence is done.

I built it on a 14' flat rack with built in hive stands.
I did a five wire with the lowest wire being a negative to introduce electricity to any skunks, or racoons that...

Re: Caught a swarm in a shallow super

I don't know what your area needs for overwintering.

No matter what, you need to give your new (and old) hive enough room to expand or you'll end up with more hives. (assuming you'll catch the...

Re: How much is too much honey?

I would dirty up all my equipment for 9 frames.

Drawn comb is too valuable to me.

    Thanks

    Re: Well, that went well.

I know its hard, BUT I would give them a little more time to settle in. You will have brood if it was a nuc. She should have been already laying.

It is a little unnerving when you first open a...

Thanks everyone for all the information and experiences!

With your reviews and the ones that Graham provided I will be using this model.

I did have another hive tore apart last Friday night....

    Re: Queen Cells

I'm a newbee so take this for what its worth.

I have read here that its not so much the location as it is the quantity of cells. If there are 1,2 they are replacing the queen. If its a lot they...
  16. Re: First attempt at grafting, what do you see.

I will for sure start another round of queens! Just not yet.

Good news after all that has happened!

After the bear took out the hive I planned on using as a finisher I just left the cells in...

Re: My turn to build a bear proof zone

    Thanks everyone for the information!

The running gear on the background of one of the pictures is going to be a bear-proof apiary on wheels.

I would not mix drawn and undrawn frames in the same box. The bees may (most likely) will continue to draw out the drawn frames deeper.

This will make it nearly impossible to pull individual...
