  1. Sticky: Re: CCD/Neonicotinoid Data (Studies, Articles, Links)

Bernhard, I'm not trying to disprove what you say. I'm only wondering out loud why I don't see such clothianadin poisoning in my bees. Is it that the poisoned colonies had nothing to forage on but...
  2. Sticky: Re: CCD/Neonicotinoid Data (Studies, Articles, Links)

No, only some feed to the cell builders when I graft, but not otherwise. In fact, this year the sumac flow was so intense that my breeder colonies filled the grafting comb with nectar as soon as I...
  3. Sticky: Re: CCD/Neonicotinoid Data (Studies, Articles, Links)

I can't dispute the finding, but my apiaries are surrounded by clothianadin corn and I'm not seeing what they say they are finding. The states of New York and Vermont have been testing my colonies,...

    Re: Push in Cage

Don't know what to say about your SHB issues, because they aren't a problem in Vermont, but....

I use push-in cages for much of my re-queening, when replacing a laying queen. The cage with new...

Re: Add brood to a weaker hive...

Use a frame or two of emerging brood. Give a light shake and the old bees will fall off, leaving the young bees hanging on. Young bees are easily transferred.

2:1 syrup in september after the goldenrod is finished. That's how I do it.
  11. Re: Just saw this an Amozom Melora UMF 15+ Manuka Honey, 250g (8.8z) $69.99

When I was in NZ this past winter, a beekeeper host we stayed with had just sold 2 drums of 19+ Manuka for 2
    NZ$26,000 each.

    Re: Move QC's 10th or 11th day?

I remove cells on day 10. Having a hot summer here and I've had some emerge early...destroyed some cells. Not a common thing to happen here, but it does occasionally

Re: Supering a double nuc hive

The bees will be fine, without fighting. Just make sure that the excluder contacts the divider, so the queens can't cross under it to the other side.

All my colonies winter in 2 deeps and a medium.
  18. Re: Laying workers producing queen cells?

Absolutely. Laying worker colonies often attempt to raise a new queen. Of course they can't as the only eggs they have are unfertilized. But they still try.

Even the queen cups can have multiple...

Sticky: Re: Successful Queen Introduction tips.

Why wait? Dispatch old queen. Locate new queen beneath push-in cage. Remove cage 4 days later. Job done.

I actually do this direct introduction a couple hundred times every year.
