They build from the top down, not the bottom up.
The bad thing about a trap out you don't get the queen, you just get foragers. What is going to happen when you remove your trap? The brood will hatch out the queen still laying, all you have done...

You can pull and extract or you can leave it till the end of season, but bee may eat it if there is a dearth. You can stack as many needed, if they are full they are heavy, not so easy to blow over.

Package bee's are shaken, they have old and young bee's. They may just be old bee's that you are seeing dead.
They will do that after a inspection, from cell damaged during the inspection.
I have hived a couple of swarms, 5 minutes later away they go. It happen, good luck on finding them again.
