    Re: Cheap Nucs?

Many people pay for veterinarians to examine animals (either pets or livestock) and give advice about care. Expensive but valuable if it works. I assume more if the vet travels.
    I keep trying to...

Re: Funniest bee question ever asked

All funny, and yet having so many people who think food comes from grocery stores is a serious problem. We need to go back to Victory Gardens.

I think I recall a comment about privet honey not tasting good but don't trust my memory. Worth checking though.

    Re: At a loss...I just don't understand

You might consider taking a sample of the bees and sendin them to Beltsville Maryland USDA bee lab for analysis.
  5. Re: Hive Location Relative to a Barbed Wire Fence Containing Horses

IF you search here, some say bees bother horses, some say they had no problem.
I like the spot you've identified. I would put up 6 foot wooden fence on north and west (road) side to help block...

Re: How important is it to leveling your hives?

like many things in beekeeping, you'll probably get quicker with hive leveling after a few times. As everyone says, get it level side to side -- you'll be glad. It also helps if you use bottom oil...

    Re: Getting out yards

I would think twice about being too near orchards -- I'd want to know how much spraying they do while in bloom.

Re: Looking for 1 1/4" frames

Kelley did offer them briefly. They quit, I think I heard because they didn't meet quality standards-- I would agree. Simply have narrower end bars but not re-tooling the top made the end bar...

    Re: Beekeeper Smell

The bees will be your guide. They have a precise feedback system.
For starters, do not smell like a bear, skunk, raccoon, mouse, flower, or gas can. When they sting gloves or your suit they mark...

Re: 8 frame deeps and supers

One other small suggestion -- I inherited about 10 frame boxes but switched to 8 frame quickly. I use that "left over" 10 frame equipment for swarm traps. One deep or two shallows (with hive...
