    Sycamore is pretty expensive for bee hives. It goes for about $9-10/Bd Ft. quarter sawn. It would be pretty heavy to be throwing around in your apiary.

    Just create a removable false bottom in the portion of the long hive that you are putting in the 3/4 frames. I would probably make it like a screened bottom board to help with mites and ventilation....
